| If you must see Simon Burch, be sure to bring a shot of insulin. This loose adaptation of John Irving's A Prayer for Owen Meany (Irving lent the filmmakers some chapters for the basic premise but smartly asked them to change the characters' names) is so relentlessly maudlin than even a distinguished supporting cast can't save it from becoming a preachy. misguided sugar rush about an unlikely child hero. -Mr. ShowBiz |
