Why Irvine and Yuffie?  Well, I really only have one thing to say to that. . . Don't Ask!

Idea:

It's a long and beautiful story involving wonderful philosophies and such, but I'll just give you the short version.  I was feeling sorry for Irvine, because he loves the women, but none of the women love him.  Unfortunately, the ever-popular Irvine/Selphie scenario did not appeal to me at all (Nor Vincent/Yuffie, for that matter) so after going through every possible Final Fantasy VIII candidate (male, female, and. . . NORG)
I came to the realization that I was a fangirl!  I can be creative!  So, I decided to think of people from other games.
Then, the idea struck me.  Yuffie Kisaragi.
Of course, the thought was so ridiculous that I dismissed it immediately, but it was too late.  The hauntingly ludicrous possibilty had already implanted itself in my brain and no matter how hard I tried, it just wouldn't go away.  In fact, I even started to like the idea after a while. (Like how Clarice secretly started to like Hannibal)

Thus leading to the creation of "Don't Ask. . . irvine x yuffie"

Good or Bad?

After some analysis, I've decided that Irvine and Yuffie would probably make a couple quite similar to Martina and Zangulus from The Slayers NEXT.  Meaning, I think the loneliness and love of fun would draw them together, and - believe it or not - it would be the lust that kept them together.  If you think about it, they really do seem like a cute couple in the way that Irvine needs someone to motivate him, and Yuffie needs someone who's basically willing to do anything and go anywhere.

Unfortunately, I can't really imagine Irvine enjoying a long-term relationship with Yuffie because of her bossy tendencies.  And Yuffie would probably not agree with Irvine chickening out whenever the pressure's on him, because you know that she's a hypocrite.
However, every relationship has its setbacks, and I think that if Yuffie and Irvine just adapted, they would be a very happy couple.
