The ride from Seattle/Tacoma Airport to Anacortes was becoming quite familiar to Scotty but all new country to Jean.
Upon arriving at Cap Sante Marina we saw the Three Jeans with her new cargo mast and dinghy rack for the first time. We ate dinner and shopped for provisions and got a good night’s sleep.
The next morning we headed for Port Townsend. The weather remained dismal, but not stormy. We tied up at the Port Townsend Marina and walked into town for a late lunch and then walked around the downtown area. Most of the buildings are quite old and still have painted advertising visible. It was fun to see long gone product's ads as we walked around the town. Toward evening, we even saw some blue sky. Jean kept busy observing the sea life clinging to the piers and piling at the marina – until quite late at night!
The next morning we were off across the Strait of San Juan de Fuca to Victoria, B.C. After clearing customs, we tied up in front of the Empress Hotel and walked uptown for shopping and eating. The skies had cleared, but it still was quite cold.
We traveled up to Sidney, B.C. the next morning, where we docked for a while so we could walk around the town. Jean spent time at the new nature center located at the harbor. We left mid-afternoon for Roche Harbor, on San Juan Island, where we cleared customs by cell phone before continuing to our berth.
Roche Harbor is a very interesting place to visit and we were the only visitors. Typical of cruising during January,we were among the very few to take advantage of the all-to-ourselves conditions. Mid-afternoon we left for Friday Harbor, on the other side of the island where we toured, dined, watched the ferries slip through the bay, and again watched sea life in theharbor.
From Friday Harbor we took a long route back to Anacortes enjoying the beautiful scenery, calm waters, and lots of blue sky. It was fun to watch the sea mammals enjoying the nice weather too.
