You would never think asking someone for a phone number would be so hard. ‘Well maybe if it was your best friends sister who you never really talked to too being with’ though Katara as she approached Azula after their 3rd period class (which they happen to have together). She had never been this nervous around Azula before and she hope to God that she didn’t look the way she felt. It was the Monday after prom and Katara had talked herself into finally getting some connect information for Zuko and by Twinklies, she was going to get that information today!

“Umm…Azula, can I ask you something?” asked Katara, Azula stopped what she was doing and look at her like she had grown a third eye ‘Not that I blame her, I don’t remember the last time I talked to her’ thought Katara

“No, Jet and I are not dating and yes it because I like some one else.” came a smooth but snippy reply from Azula

Blinking a few time Katara shudder a bit “What…no, that’s not what I was going to ask you”

“Oh, then what you want?” replied a slightly embarrassed Azula

“Umm…I wanted to know if you had a phone number or something for your uncle” Katara asked very attentively though she was taking back by the emotions that flashed through Azula’s eyes. ‘She misses Zuko, well that should be expected.’

“Why would you want my uncles phone number?”

“Well, you see I want…well that is I haven’t.” Katara stumbled over her words until she final said softy “Zuko…”

Surprising, Azula just smiled at her knowingly and pulled out a notebook and pen; turning to a blank page she started writing “This is Zuko’s cell number and e-mail address. Whatever you do, don’t call him on Thursdays, that’s when we get to talk.” Ripping out the piece of paper she hands it to her. “Personally I’m surprised how long you guys went with out talking, but he’ll be happy to hear from you.” She said then added softly, “He misses you, you know.”

Katara was taken back a bit by Azula’s comment but smiled softly. When Zuko first left she didn’t know what to think and actually she didn’t know until a few mouths after the fact when Zuko failed to show up at summer camp and Azula told her what had happen. She had wanted to wait and see if he would make the first move but a week past, then a mouth, then another, and between school and swim meets she finally just lost take of time all together. Looking back, she regretted not trying sooner but she had to wonder why Zuko didn’t try either.

Katara’s thoughts where broken when Azula spoke up “He’s been seeing a therapist for a couple years now and he’s got a couple friends at school and I think he’s even dated a bit but other than that he keeps to himself, doesn’t go out, does even talk much. The only reason he talks to me is because I insist he does.”

There was sadness in Azula voice as she spoke, not that Katara blamed her, she lost both her mother and brother in only a matter of days and now she was left with a father who would soon rather be at work then with his daughter.

“Sounds like you miss him too.” Katara commented as her folded up the paper and tucked it safely into her pocket. “It must suck not having him around or being able to see him…I can’t even being to imagine what it would be like not to have Sokka around, even though he a big pain in the butt.”

Azula snickerd and nodded, her mood improving, “Yah, Zuko a pain too and even over protective at time but he what little family I have left, I don’t want to be like my father and push him away and I guess when it comes down to it I love him. Don’t tell him I told you that thou, or I’ll hurt you!”

Katara laughed at the idle threat knowing very well what she meant. Both girls then collected their things and head out of the classroom. Just as they where about the part ways Katara made her second bold move of the day.

“Hey, Azula, why don’t you join me at lunch. I usually sit with Suki and Aang” Azula looked stunned for a moment before Katara add that Hura would be there to. Her only response was a nod from a now blushing Azula and the two girls headed toward the chaos that was the cafeteria.

Slowly Katara slipped her hand into her pocket, her fingers brushing the piece of paper tucked snuggly in it and smiled brightly.
