"Open my present!" nagged Katara, pulling on his sleeve. Zuko was busy reading the instructions on assembling a Lego fortress.
"Yeah, open it, Zuzu!" Azula added, pressing the trigger on her Nerf dart gun and chasing Sokka. The pair of Nerf guns was Sokka's present to Azula (more correctly, what Sokka told his mother Azula would want). She swore loudly that it was her favorite Christmas present ever and nothing would ever be better.

Reluctantly, Zuko dropped the instruction pamphlet and brought over the box wrapped in ice blue and snowflake paper. He quickly ripped it up and opened the box. Inside he found--

"No way! It's the Blue Spirit's costume! How did you know I wanted it, Katara?" breathed the little boy. He instantly began strapping on the black polyester wristbands,  pulling out plastic double swords, and donning the plastic mask of his favorite cartoon hero.

"Because I'm smart," said Katara smugly, or as smugly as a 2 year old could be. "And it's cool."

"Well, then you better open my present," said Zuko, "because it's even better." Curious, Katara shredded a cheery red present.

"Huh? What's this?" she asked. It was a round, flat, smooth stone with carvings on it like the waves of an ocean.

"Don't be rude," chided her mother. Turning to Ursa and Ozai, she said, softly, "You didn't have to get her something so pretty or so expensive. She's two! She could break it!"

"Oh, I didn't choose it!" chuckled Ursa, "Zuko did. He insisted. It's--"

"it's a special  blue-green jade," Zuko snorted, admonishing Katara and rolling his eyes. "You said you wanted something pretty and girly instead of Sokka's old stuff, so I asked Mommy if I could get it for you. See?" The boy took the pendant from her hands and hooked it onto a gold chain  which was tucked under the trinket. "And then you put it on your neck!"  He held the necklace and jade just in front of her neck in a motion as if to put it on.

"Oohhhhh..." said Katara, "Hey, help me put it on!"
"Alright, alright."
"Then can I play with your Lego set?"
"No way! It's mine!"

And so Christmas ensued.
