I made a one day trip to Hiroshima on 10th. October in 2002. Because I could get
a cheap discount ticket of JR-West(Western Japan Passenger Railways).
Hiroshima is well known as the city where they got the world first atomic bomb raid.
But besides it she was a historic castle town. They had a very beautiful castle,
Hiroshima Castle. It was burned down by the Atomic Bomb in 1945. The present castle
was rebuilt in 1953. Before the World War II, there located Japanese Naval Headquaters.
That was the reason they got the raid.
I had ever visited Auschwitz in Poland in the summer of 2000, but never been to
Hiroshima. So the visiting Hiroshima sounded me as a homework for a long while..
For the ticket was so cheap, it had a condition that I could'nt take any special trains,
like express or so. Hiroshima is situated about 310km(190miles) west to Kyoto as the
crow flies. I took 3 local trains and it took 6 hours to reach Hiroshima. I left Kyoto at 5
in the morning and arrived at the city a half befire noon. I spent 6 hours there and
came back in the midnight. It was a quite exiting trip. |
