Chapter 9
Captured

I woke up in the real world, the place I belonged.  I successfully returned but at what cost?  My brother had sacrificed himself for me as did the boy I met in that world the first time I visited.  I felt a strong sense of guilt run through me as opened my eyes.

I looked around in the darkness and saw a figure running around through the woods.  Then I looked around to were the others had fallen asleep and they were all still there, except the man.  He was missing.  I looked around again and saw nothing and I quickly dismissed it.  This is the real world, there are no monsters or robots that slink through the woods with a sadistic glee, I am safe here.  I heard a twig break and quickly dismissed all I thought before, there was something out there.  My eyes dashed from one side to the other trying to pick up what it could be, I was thinking the worse.  Then all of the sudden I felt a hand cover my mouth and I bit down quickly without thinking.  A voice from behind me screamed and then something struck me in the head.

When I woke up from the blow to my head I had a massive headache.  I kept my eyes closed because I didnt want to see what happened, I was too scared.  I didnt know what hit me but it was powerful whatever it was.  Even though I knew I was back in the real world I feared a monster or some other creature standing right in front of me, waiting for me to wake up before it killed me in sadistic glee.  For one of the first times in my life I didnt want to die however, so many people made my life possible that throwing their sacrifices away would be so twisted and cruel.  I want to live, I want to find my brother.  I dont want to be alone, but I am.  Then my mind went back on topic, I need to know what attacked me.  I knew it couldnt have been a monster, it had to be human.  It was probably an enemy soldier capturing us and then either taking us as hostages or executing us.  And then for once I tried to think on the bright side.  It could have been a friendly solider who in the darkness mistook us for enemies.  I opened my eyes hoping for the best.

The moment I opened my eyes I knew I was in a foreign place.  I sat up and quickly grabbed my both the back of my head which is were I was hit and my left ribs were I was kicked.  I laid back down and screamed pain, I knew my ribs were broken.  All the injuries I had gotten in the past few days have been plaguing me and increasing in amount, at this rate I would surly get a lethal injury.  As I lay there I went back into thought, I thought about the other world.  I wanted to go back to find my brother but I didnt want to go back in fear of increased injury and death.  I was at a crossroads, my mind debating the subject.

Kid, you awake?  A voice said from a close area.  I nodded my head to show that I was awake, but because of my injuries I was unable to move.  Thank goodness.  Something bad happened kid.  We were captured by the enemy army.  During the night I woke up and went to go to the bathroom and saw a campfire.  I thought it was our countries army so I went up to the fire.  The problem was it wasnt our army, it was the enemies.  They captured me immediately and then went to our camp and got you.  My wife, child and the nurse arent back though.  Im really nervous, do you think they are okay?

I didnt.  From the news I heard that the Zerano army was taking prisoners and killing the majority of them.  They probably only captured me and the man because they figured we could work for them.  If this was the case then I would have to hide my injuries to stay alive.  Then I remembered that I was asked a question and I turned my head over to the man.  He looked very worried and had tears running down his eyes.  I could tell he was terrified about what was going on but probably didnt feel at all responsible.  Do you want me to be honest?  I asked him.

Yes, please be honest.  The man said.  I could tell that his mind was questioning their survival.  I knew that If I didnt tell him the truth he would continue torturing himself and eventually find out.  I didnt want him to have to go through that, he was the only person left I could talk to.  I knew that if he died or was to sidetracked to talk to me I would feel isolated and my mind would delve back into dark thoughts.

They are dead.  I said.  The man looked at me in disbelief.  First he fell down and then cupped his hands over his face, he was crying.  I just sat there and watched, I wasnt upset.  I had seen so much death in recent times that this was nothing, I was used to it.  I turned my head in the other direction and looked into the enemy camp.  Through the fence I saw soldiers celebrating a job well done while eating and drinking.  Then I remember how long it had been since I had eaten.  We ran out of food yesterday when the man gave it all to cute woodland animals.  My stomach growled as I sat there and watched the soldiers eat, it was torture.  I closed my eyes and tried to fall asleep.

I woke up and felt a gun being jabbed into my gut.  I held back the pain, if I didnt they might have killed me.  Kid, you need to work now!  The soldier said.  Youre job today is to clean up our night mess before the majority of us leave.  Dont worry, we will still watch you though.  I turned my head and looked at the man and then turned my head back over to the soldier.  I still had my headache.

Ill do it.  The man  said as he stood up and walked over to me.  As he walked out of the cage I smiled at him and then I turned my head back up.  The sun was up now but it was still early morning, time to take my medicine.  I couldnt take it though, and I could feel the pain in my body building again.  My leg didnt hurt much but my arms were sore from my crutches and my ribs were in large amounts of pain.  Then I remember, my crutches.  If the soldiers found those they would know that I was unable to work and would surely do away with me.  Worry was building up inside of me and I was getting nervous, I feared for my life.  I turned my head to the camp and saw the man walking back.  When he came back to the cage he had a shocked look on his face.  He went into the corner and sat there staring into at me.  Theythey  He stuttered as he was trying to speak.  TheyThey showed me my wifes body.  And theythey gave my baby to one of their girlfriends.  He began to cry and curled up into the fetal position.  I looked at him and also began to cry, I was sad for him.  Minutes passed by and the man sat back up but still had the same look of shock on his face.  We need to escape he said.  Got a plan?
