sam was supposed to die...but sudden storyline changes...
Chapter 8

Goodbye

The robot looked at me curiously.  Are you for real human?  It said after a moment.  As far as I know I have never met a human that doesnt value its own life.  You are defiantly a peculiar person.  I almost like you, but I have been ordered to kill and thats what I shall do.  I would just like you to repeat what you have said before I kill you, I would enjoy hearing it again to know that I am not imagining things.

As I have said before, I have nothing to live for.  I have no one waiting for me on the other side, Kelvin does.  My friend has friends and family while I have none.  I said this confidently as the robot looked at me with the same curious face it had.  I could tell I confused it, he was not expecting to ever meet a human so eager to end its life.

Thats what I thought you said.  The robot said.  Because of your bravery and your uncharacteristic loyalty I will end your life abruptly.  The robot still had a curios look on its face as if it was still trying to comprehend everything I just said.  I didnt care though, I was about to die.  Even looking death in the eye I was not shaken, I simply didnt care.  As I had said before I had nothing to live for and going back home and even if I did go back I was swapping one hell for another.  In this hell there were monsters that would eat me alive, in the other hell there were men with guns trained to kill.  I have to admit I would prefer a death in the real world but you dont choose the time you die.  As I sat there I noticed that the robot didnt swing yet, it was still watching me.  You dont even care that you are about to die, it would be crueler of me to leave you here to live.  If I did that then I wouldnt be fulfilling my mission and I would probably be killed myself.  I dont see why you dont fear the death I am about to bring you but the fact that you dont even care anymore almost scares me.  It is so uncharacteristic of humans to care so little for itself, normally all you care for is your own life but I am finding you to be opposite of that.  I will now put you out of your misery, may you find peace in the afterlife.  The robot raised his arm, ready to bring it crashing down upon my skull.  I actually believed he wanted to kill me in one hit and prevent any more suffering.  I closed my eyes, I didnt want them to be open after death.

A moment went by and nothing happened.  I opened my eyes to see someone in front of me, my brother.  Max, dont talk like that!  Sam said as he held the arm of the robot back.  You have stuff to live for!  I know mom died and the town was destroyed but you still have stuff to live for!  Im still alive and once you get to Hillary you can come live with dad and I!  You need to get out of this and live!  Enjoy your life and stop talking about how meaningless you fell it is!  Just live it!  Get out of this and move, run.  Get the hell out of here.  I can take care of this guy.  The portal is two houses down, all you need to do is pick up the crutch by your side and limp over there!

Miserable human!  said the robot with sadistic glee in him voice.  You sacrifice yourself to save your brother and friend.  You put yourself in front of them and they let you, they are letting you die!  They dont care if you die as long as you survive.  I am sure your other friend has already abandoned you and its just down to you and your useless brother who will probably leave you know.  After saying this the robot lifted his arm and swiftly kicked my brother in the shin with immense speed.  I turned my head to avoid seeing what happened only to see Kelvin standing in front of the house with the portal, waiting.  The robot followed my eyes while Sam was on the ground holding his leg.  I turned to look at Sam who was kneeling on the ground holding his injured leg.  The robot was laughing its sadistic laugh and then turned its head back to Kelvin and rushed there using the speed it used when it ran by me earlier.  I turned my head when it rushed to try and see Kelvin but by the time my head made it the robot was already there and Kelvin was not, only Sam was left.   I was as good as dead and Sam was already injured.  Stupid stupid humans.  The robot said as it began approaching my brother and I.  Your friend should have ran when he had the chance, even if I despise that kind of personality but it does buy him more time.

Shut up!  Sam said as he returned to his feet and stared down the returning robot.  Not all humans are like that.  I dont care what you think, I know different.  And this I am sure of!  After this Sam charged the robot with breakneck speed and a clenched first.  Sam made contact with the robot and immediately scream in pain.  He jumped back and fell to the ground again.  I looked at his knuckles and they were raw.  I looked at the robot and were he made contact and all I saw was a small dent left by Sams best efforts.  Max, youll love this.  Sam said when he noticed the minuscule damage he inflicted upon the opponent.  Then I watched as Sam hesitated and then swiftly lifted his arm into the air, then I turned my head to the robot.  Were the robot was there was a giant rock spike and no robot, it was gone.  I started looking around again but I failed to see anything.

So you are the new human who has made a new for himself here? The robots voice was coming in all directions.  My master actually has an interest in you.  He has told me to capture you at all costs and not kill you.  So, I have a deal for you.  Instead of me killing your friends you come with me and they can survive.  Does that sound good to you?  I looked at Sam thinking that he was going to immediately reply no but he didnt, he hesitated.  His lip quivered as he stood there thinking about the offer that the robot had giver him.  I figured he was thinking that if he gave himself up the robot would actually spare Kelvin and I.

Sam, dont listen to him!  I shouted.  I knew Sam was seriously thinking about accepting the offer.

Shut up human, its all your friends decision!  Of coarse, I will kill you if you still want.  The robot said this sadistically.  He knows he cant beat me, I am much to fast.  He knows the only way that any of you can survive this is if he surrenders.  Hes doing it for you and your friend, he is acting out of human characteristics and I thought you did so minutes ago.  Now, boy of earth, answer now or your offer expires.  Either way I capture you but this way at least your friends survive.  I looked at Sam again and knew he had decided to surrender.

Ill do it, my brother said with a grim tone to him voice.  I just sat there and watched as he walked towards the robot and then left without a fight.  I was stunned at what happened and the fact that I was still alive.  I felt as though my will to die actually saved my life, but caused my brother to leave forever.  When I will see him I may never know but he sacrificed himself for me, he is the second.  Is my life really worth that much, should I value it more?  I reached for the stick Sam left beside me and stood up, my entire body in a large amount of pain.  I started limping, the only I could do.  I could not save my brother, I could not save the boy who saved me long ago.  I could not save anybody, all I could do was cause harm to others.  My state of depression deepened as I walked through the portal.
