Chapter 4
The Bald Hawks

I got jabbed in the Stomach and quickly all of the birds got on my arms and legs, immobilizing me.  I was terrified, I screamed as loud as I could but to no prevail, they began picking at my right leg and I screamed.  I was not pain tolerant in any way shape or form.  I jerked around but still nothing, I was going to die and there was nothing  could do about it.  Not that I didnt want to die, that part I didnt mind.  I havent valued my life in years, but the pain I was going through was unbearable, I was being torn apart.  I feared everything except death, I feared what lead up to death because I feared pain, that was probably the single reason I was still alive.  I starting waving in and out of consciousness, I was loosing it.  The pain dealt to me was unbearable, my leg was being torn apart by 5 giant vultures.  At that point I passed out from the pain.

I got up on a small bed, I could instantly tell I still wasnt in the real world.  My perception of reality was on the balance and I was scared out of my wits.  Quickly questions poured into my head.  Were am I?  What is going on?  Were did the vultures go?  Am I dead?  All I knew was that the place I was at was unfamiliar and that I did not want to go threw that amount of pain again.  The feeling cam back in my leg, and I screamed.

Keep quiet! A hushed, mysterious voice said.  Or you will get us both killed!

Who are you? I asked the voice quietly.

I am something.  That is all you need to know for now.  You need to get down, keep quiet and cover your wound.  The Bald hawks are coming back.  The voice said this quickly as he grabbed some food and approached me.  Follow me down before they come back.  If they come here we will be doomed.  I cant fight them all, only a few at a time.

I followed him with a limp through the small wooden shack and down a flight of stairs into a basement.  Once I made it to the bottom I once again collapsed.

Get up, I think they are gone.  The voice said to me.  I fixed up your leg the best I could, now we should get out of here.  I dont know were the bald hawks went but I dont think they went far, they know we are here.

Before we leave I need to ask you a few question.  I said this seriously.  First of all, were are we.  Second of all, who or what are you.  Finally, how did you find me and save me.  The thing sat there, I could tell it was thinking.  Unfortunately through all of the darkness in the basement I couldnt tell what it was so I had to ask.

We are in a place I like to call the nightmare realm.  Were it is exactly I dont know, I just know its not part of earth.  Sometimes when I fall asleep I end up here.  This place is actually really cool in some aspects.  Us humans gain superpowers.  I have water/ice but unfortunately it is weak, I can only barely freeze things and create balls of water.  So ya, Im weak but I could still hold off 1 or 2 bald hawks.  So, as you can guess I am human.  I live in a small refugee camp outside of Hilary.  My village was destroyed in the war and I was the only one to escape, so for the past month I have been running.  As to how I saved you I didnt really.  I was wondering through the desert when I saw the bald hawks attacking you.  At first I was gonna run and leave you, but I heard your screaming and figured you were still alive.  As I ran up I saw a sphere of wind coming out of the area and the bald hawks got blown away.  After that I ran at you post haste, wanting to see what was going on.  When I got there you were unconscious and the bald hawks were lying on the ground.  I quickly grabbed you and carried you back here.  Unfortunately they followed me, but seeing how strong that attack of yours was we may be able to make it to town and the portal outta this place.  he took a breath and looked at me, waiting for a reply.

My mind then began to grasp what he said, slowly.  We are in a different world, and I may never get out and see my family again.  Apparently I had powers that I never knew of before that I didnt know how to use.  The war sucks, doesnt it.  I said finally.

Ya, it does.  My whole family died.  I was in the woods when it happened, my town was bombed.  He stopped talking then and tears rolled down his eyes.  After a minute of crying he started to look around again and once again began talking.  So, do you actually know how to use your powers?

I sat there for a minute, crying for him.  War was terrible, and it all started over something stupid, all wars do.  I soon stopped crying and began thinking about how I could use my powers.  After a few minutes of thought I stopped because of were my mind was going.  I do not know how to use my powers.  I replied.

Before I knew it we were on the run again, Bald Hawks right behind us.  The boy with me was way faster than me.  I would have guessed because of my wounded leg but I wasnt sure.  He kept falling back to throw balls of water at the vultures and then come back up.  At this rate I knew they would catch us.  Only a mile more to go I said to myself as I noticed we were steadily approaching the town.  Because of my limp the rate I was going was incredibly slow, I figured I wouldnt be to the town for 10 minutes.  And what made the town safe, it isnt like there is an anti-giant bird shield or something.  Then I remembered something that my accomplish could do to hold those birds off.  Throw sand in their eyes! I shouted at the boy as he threw his third ball of water.

Why?  He shouted back at me quickly as he fell behind.

Throw it in their eyes, it blinds them for a short period of time  I said quickly.  Then I collapsed to the ground, my leg gave way.  The blood was dripping down my leg, I figured my blood amount was getting dangerously low.  I screamed as the boy came back to me and took off his shirt and threw it at me.

Wrap it tight around your leg, itll keep pressure on it so youll loose less blood.  As he said this he began throwing sand at the bald hawks.  And not to worry you or anything, but they are catching up and building in numbers.

I quickly wrapped the old, torn shirt around my leg tightly.  I grinded my teeth as my legs pain increased.  I got up and started throwing sand and rocks at the bald hawks.  I saw 6 of them now, and more were coming.  I quickly looked around and grabbed a rock and bashed one of them in the head, it fell to the ground.  Throw rocks at their heads!  I shouted as soon as the bald hawk fell to the ground.  They have weak skulls, thats were you hit!

Gotcha!  the boy shouted at me as he picked up a rock.  We both threw some rocks with low accuracy.  Run kid, I can hold them off!  He shouted at me.  I know what I am doing, please just get out of here before you are eaten!

I ran as fast as I could with the limp in my left leg.  In 5 minutes I made it to the town only to collapse on the ground in front of a strange door.  Blood was still dripping down my leg and I was becoming dizzy.  I got up again and once again collapsed, I was in tremendous pain.  At another attempt I dragged myself with my arms, trying my best to keep the wounded leg off the ground but it began to drag so I had to immediately stopped.  I was in front of the door thing but I couldnt get inside.  I began to hear cries from the bald hawks, I figured they killed the boy.  I felt sorry for him, he sacrificed himself to save me.  I quickly summoned all of my strength to get up and walk into the door, I didnt want to be eaten alive.  I jumped through the door and once again woke up.
