Lasher Course and Other General Ironman Croquet Shots

The Deck Shot, (Created by Brandon, Nathan, and Kevin) Players start on walkway on back most deck, shot across the deck and try to shoot out one wicket to grass below, if you fall off the deck, you have to shoot at the beginning. It should take a skilled player two shots, a lucky player one, but most people fall off many times. Originally, the deck didn't have blockers at the end, but we stopped being sadist.

The Petrified Forest, (Created by Henry) This took the place of the Bob Bastard Box, the soft ground made it easier to place some long, metal stakes in the ground, forming a circle. On top of each stake was placed a small, green, plastic planter. The combination of the slightly rusted stakes, and planters, make it look like a patch of small trees. The wicket was placed in the center of the "forest."

The Chair Shot, (Created by Scott) Broken lawn furniture became a unique shot. A lawn chair is laid down, back to ground, and a wicket is place between the slats. The player then shoots up the chair though the wicket, hopefully hitting the seat, causing it to roll down. Most misses end up in the chairs arm, forcing much back tracking. Historical note: the broken lawn chair is gone, so a good one is now used. The double chair shot can also be made, but it's a urban myth.

Sprinkler Shot, (Created by Scott and Brandon) A wicket near a running sprinkler, water gets in eyes and player who hate getting wet adversely effected.

Grass Mound, (Created by Steve) Raked up grass piled up to surround a wicket, to complicate the shot. One small rule, players, must re-rake after every shot into it, or out of it, to help keep it interesting. This is most useful when Ben and Brandon don't want to rake their grass and have Steve do it!

Hose Bag, (Created by Steve) Coil up a hose around a wicket, to defect or bounce balls. A new twist to the shot is the wicket is placed next to a hole known as " The Pit of Despair" were it takes a skilled shot to get out of safely. But the Pit was covered up late last year.

Ramp Shot, (Created by Steve) Place free standing ramp, with a wicket at the end. Shot must be taken straight on or shot will not go though.

The Frog Pond Shot, (Created by Ben, Hank, and Steve) Since the frog biffed it in a previous tournament, and the shot was kinda dull with him just standing there, a new shot was formed. A plastic container, filled with water is placed, wood ramps going up, and out. A wicket is placed at the top of the ramp, and player can either hit it with full force, risking a water landing, but possibly setting up for the next wicket, or can lightly tap it, enough to go though, but not enough to clear the ramp. The original frog is a mere onlooker but his " babies" are there ready to be smashed to bits. This shot is so popular it has been played on five different courses.

Chain Link Mess, (Created by Henry) An old chain link fence was laid down on the ground to make one of the trickiest shots in the game. The fence lays unevenly, causing unexpected defections and rolls, making even the easiest seeming shot unreliable. A lot of luck is needed to get though this one.

Wood you like to win?, (Created by Brandon) Spare 2X4 are used to form a pseudo maze, with weird angles. Either hope for a hop shot to get in, or go from opening.

Canales, (Created by Ben) Hit from last shot in back yard, past the gate around to the front yard grass area, across cement (and a slope) though one of two canales of cinder block, with flower pots on top. This shot has cost Mike many tournaments.

The Trench Run, (Created by Hank) An old roof gutter is used for this one. A Ramp is placed at the beginning to help you get in, and wicket at the end. Propping it up adds to the challenge. Hit it too hard it will fly out, too lightly it'll roll back to the beginning. A newer plastic trench was added to prevent Tetnis.

The Wood, The Bad, and The Ugly, ( Created by Brandon) This goofy shot involves two boards being placed as a sort of ramp to reach the wicket and onto the front porch. It could led to troubles because of that ever hard to judge cement.

Pin Shot, (Created by Ben) 20 used bowling pins bought by Ben became one of the premire shots of 2000. Layed between 2 garden boxes, the pins are a nightmare. Hit them head on and get deflected, due to croquet balls not having the weight of a bowling ball. You can only hope to pop it up or push though.

Under Construction, (Created by Ben) New for 2001, a ladder, some tires, and wood pieces at the side of the house formed a mess to contend with. Shot was placed under the ladder for bad luck, must be seen to believe.

The Ruins, A pile of broken cinder blocks form a maze that is hard to get to from any side. Ring stuck in the middle to cause people to lose.

The Super Secret Shot, (Created By Ben) So secret, so mean, it only exsits in Ben's mind. Will be unleashed at the Scott Balthrop Match Play Tournament.
