The News for those few who play real croquet! June 3,2000

| Now Alan won't have to wear this goofy hat! |
"Maybe he'll stop wearing those damn Tanktops!", commented Ben.

In one of the longest Tournaments ever, the first major of the year, with 9
players in attendance, Alan Manka won. Alan finished 1st in the first round, and
finished 2nd in the last two. "Thanks to Jon (Crawford), I am a Croquet Master.",
Alan said admitting he had a little help.
Jon however had this to say, "Once again the Orange shirt eluded me!" Jon
comments held true, he finished 1st in the last two rounds, but showed up late
and finished 8th in the first round. Last year Jon held the lead early in the
first two rounds, but finished last place in the final round, and lost 3rd place
in a heated play-off with Steve. But that was last year.
Other notables Brandon, last years champ, finished in 3rd place by beating Josh
in a play-off game. Ben, the game, finished 5th overall, beating Steve in a play-off
by default, Steve had to miss the last round.
The day seemed to go on forever, with the temperature in the high 80's with no
wind. Kool-aid flowed forth quenching the thirst of all in the grueling 7 hour event.
Also a new face joined the league in this Major in the form of Java Duel, and he
took the "customary" Rookie placing of last, something all rookies seem to do their
first time out.
Mike summed up all that defeated him in two words, "Jack ass." Words which he
used often and freely.

Where was everyone? The first annual Orange Shirt Classic Champions Dinner was Friday, June 2nd, the night before the 2nd annual Orange Shirt Classic. Once again copying the dorks of golf, the league decided to have a dinner for all previous Orange Shirt Champions. So I arrived at what would be an unforgettable great evening with truly is an honor to be a part of. Last year's Champion, Brandon Lasher, got to pick the meal of choice for the dinner. He and all previous champions eat happily on frozen Tombstone Pizzas! Then we gave a list of previous Champions, a storied list with some of the greatest players in Ironman Croquet History. As is the great tradition, a previous champion gave a speech discussing what it means to be a Orange Shirt Classic Champion. This year's speaker was a surprise choice of Brandon Lasher, the 1999 Champion. "It takes a lot of patience and skill to be a Orange Shirt Champion. You can't be a cheating jerk (Ewoks), a man who throws a fit upon destroying a flower (Steve), and you can't be part of the most speculator collapse in major history thus making you the laughing stock of the league (Jon). Sorry didn't mean that last one," said Brandon in part of his beautiful three hour and twenty minute speech. So the Champions Dinner was a honor that only the Great Orange Shirt champions enjoy. Now Alan will be part of this great dinner and hopefully he will bring something good to eat!![]()
