The News for those few who play real croquet! October 2, 1999
|
| Alan is "rewarded" by Mike and Jon for a job well done. |
Alan dances his way to his first major.
By Brandon Lasher, the 1999 IMC Player of the YearThe season ended in epic fashion with two playoffs to determine 3rd place and the champion of the major. Alan walked away with his first major, Mike another second, and Jon coming from behind to take third from Steve.
Alan has this to say about the tenseful ten minute playoff, "Wow!" Mike swore revenge and left. But both players had many chances to close out the major before Alan made his putt.
The tournament was played at three courses: Mike's, Steve's, and the Lasher's which lead to some exciting rounds. Only Ben and Brandon did not play very well ending in a tie for last.
So the season came to an end in the excellent competion that has been the norm of the year!

The 1999 Ironman Croquet Awards Party is Saturday, December 4th. It is scheduled to be at Round Table's Pizza but don't be to shocked if it gets moved to The Lasher house or Mike's home. We plan to have it 12 p.m. Yes, pizza and then awards. We will also present the Spam Player of the Year award and Player of the Year Award.
The Upcoming!
That's all folks see you in April 2000 for The Ironman Croquet Kickoff Tourney
Broken frogs, playoffs, betrayals, and the rise of the Sith Lords. These are some of the moments that explain the amazing first year of the Ironman Croquet League. A year were anything could happen.
Our first tournament, The Ironman Kickoff Tourney, had only three people. In the Sports Day Festival later that year we had eight. We had eleven sad souls give up weekend days to play this twisted sport.
The year started with Steve winning the first event, The Kickoff Tourney and he won The Mummy Invitational. From April until late June he was the unstoppable force of croquet. So much so that we had a No-Steve's Tournament. A tournament were Mike fell in the street a lot and Ben picked up his only victory.
Property damage occured a lot in the course of the season. Brandon broke a mallet at The Sports Day Festival, Rick broke garden boxes at The Pez Invitational, Alan almost killed Brandon at The Spam Classic, but it was Ben that gave us the shocking moment. In a desperate attempt to catch Jon for second at the Mummy Invitational, Ben destroyed the beloved Frog of the Frog Shot. He was cursed with a losing streak soon afterwards.
Rivalies played a huge role in the year. We thought we could get together in peace and harmony but competion got the better of us. At the Orange Shirt Classic, a lunch payed by the Lasher's forced Jon to join the powerful force known as the Sith Lords. The Sith Lords, Brandon and Jon, ran rampated through the middle the year. They won the Spam Classic, The We Have No Lives Classic, Mike's Marvel Open Inviational, the Pez Invitational, The Orange Shirt Classic, and The Scott Balthrop Memorial Tournament. It seemed the Sith Lords would rule the league. But it was a different story at the end of the year.
Alan had played poorly in his first two events, Spam Classic and Mike's Marvel, were he finished dead last. He skipped a few events to train in secret in Colorado and returned in impressive fashion. He coasted to victory in the Sports Day Festival (an event better known for the brutal betrayal of Steve), the Spam Invitational, and won a memorable playoff against Mike in The Ironman Croquet Tournament of Champions. We ended the year to stop Alan's amazing winning streak. So that was the first season of Ironman Croquet, who knows what IMC 2000 will bring!
