Crawford Course

Boat Shot, (Created by Jon) Yes, Jon used his rusty old boat as his course's starting point. You start on the far end of the upside-down boat and carefully aim to maneuver the ball into the right groove so it rolls through the wicket taped at the other end of the boat.

Gasoline Alley, (Created by Jon) This shot is at the top of a small hill, against the fence. First you must make it up the incline. The shot is placed at an angle, so you have to hit it perfectly or the ball will roll back down the hill. An old gasoline can is there, too, causing problems if you get stuck behind it or if you hit it so hard it explodes! (The Ironman Croquet league does not support putting gas in the gas can before shooting this shot.)

Gravel Road, (Created by Brandon and Jon) The first croquet shot in history to be completely on gravel. Avoid hitting Jon's camper, because if you hit it too far to the left you will get stuck behind garbage cans and various tools. (i.e. Mike) The shot is angled at the far end of the camper next to a garden box.

Hell Hill, (Created by Jon) Jon, a true lover of pain, placed a shot near the top of a very steep hill in the middle of his backyard. If you hit it too hard it goes up and over the hill. If you hit it too light it rolls back down the hill. About the only way to successfully do this shot was to hit your ball so it leaned up against the wicket. Most of us used the twelve shot rule.

The Plum Shot, (Created by Jon) The Crawford's have a plum tree (why is beyond me). The wicket was placed below one of the tree's low-lying branches. You have to avoid fallen plums and those annoying leaves in your face.

Rubarb, (Created by Brandon) What better place to have a shot than the far end of a fenced-in garden! After chipping over some rocks to enter the garden, you travel through a lot of weeds to get close to the back of the garden next to a Rubarb Plant. Avoid breaking parts of the garden like Rick did.

The Trail, (Created by Jon and Brandon) After going up yet another hill (Jon has a hilly backyard), you'll find a pinecone trail which you can follow to get to the wicket. If you hit it too far you might bump the bench behind the hole and roll back down the hill.

Tree Trouble, (Created by Rick) This hole is placed between two large trees. A perfect shot is necessary to get between them or you will roll back down the hill. Most players ended up going around the tree, hoping to land the ball above the wicket so it would roll through. It was very hard and that is why we don't let Rick make any more shots.
