Located 203 klms from Port Hedland, Marble Bar has plenty to explore in this old mining town. There is a number of historic buildings in and around the township dating back to the 1800's. Many of the old buildings are still used today. Other points of interest include: The Comet goldmine, Chinamans Pool, a popular swimming spot, One Mile Gorge, a photographers & bushwalkers delight and Glen Herring Gorge, Doolena Gorge & Coppins Gap for picnics & swimming. Marble Bar has the reputation of being the hottest town in Australia with 170 days in a row topping the 38 deg C or 100 deg F mark in a row during the summer of 1923/1924. Visitors usually travel in the cooler months, where the nights are cool & the days are mild. Some of the more spectacular photography opportunities can be during summer when the water is flowing. |
