The phenomenon that would be Dave Patera started his pro-wrestling career in August of 1993 at Larry Sharpes legendary Monster Factory (the very same Monster Factory that turned out the Beast from the East, Bam Bam Bigelow) in Clementon, NJ. There he received training by such wrestling superstars as the Headbangers and Balls Mahoney, eventually making his in-ring debut against A.C. Conner (a.k.a. DLo Brown) in 1994 as Dave Dutch. Never before in the history of this great sport did a debut have such an impact on the industry, forever changing the face of professional wrestling.
Well, not really. But Dave likes to think so.
Regardless, his debut against the soon-to-be DLo Brown would mark the beginning of Dave Pateras ascension to greatness. That journey would be taken one step further in June of 1996 as Dave would meet Blaine DeSantis (then promoter of Pennsylvania Championship Wrestling) thus prompting him to change his name from Dave Dutch to Dave Patera (after finding out that his mothers uncles cousins sisters former postman was related to the great Olympian Ken Patera, the Worlds Strongest Man; to avoid long, drawn-out explanations, Dave just tells people hes Kens third cousintwice removed).
Not only did Patera gain a new identity in PCW, he also gained the PCW Tag Team Championship with future Risky Business Incorporated member Johnny Greco (who, while dabbling in Islam at the time, referred to himself as Jihad Hussein). During his tenure in PCW, Patera also captured PCWs Commonwealth Championship from the self-proclaimed King of the Independents Reckless Youth in September of 1998; quite arguably Pateras greatest wrestling accomplishment. Others argue that Pateras greatest wrestling accomplishment came in 1999 when he, along with Johnny Greco, met up with Risky Business Ronnie Raines to become original founding members of Risky Business Incorporated. After that fateful encounter, Patera went on to collect victory after victory, becoming the Phantom Weight Champion of Jersey-based Dangerzone Championship Wrestling in March of 2000. In July of that year, Patera went on to win the Trans World Junior Weight Championship in a Tournament Final in Japan (when Trans World Wrestling Alliance President Todd Amos refused to pay the other tournament competitorsand they all went home).
Yes, thanks to the managing genius of Ronnie Raines, the Olympian Dave Patera has become a champion of champions. Thanks to his own remarkable talent and wrestling ability, the Olympian Dave Pateras dominance of the independent scene continues to spread. And thanks to his massive physique, the Olympian Dave Patera can be seen soundly thrashing his opponents in Dangerzone Championship Wrestling, the United Wrestling Coalition, Atlantic Championship Wrestling, Massachusetts Elite Wrestling Alliance, and right here in IRON MAN CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING!
