Softball Championship
Briana

Wheres my glove, my socks, my bat? I was totally frazzled the morning of my big softball game in Downers Grove against the Spikes.

I hurried to get everything done so I wouldnt be late for my game. We had a triple-header and it was forecast to be 106* F, the hottest day this year! Our team, The Light Blue Angels, had never won a game against the Spikes. I was pretty nervous!

When I arrived at the field, some of my team was already there. The people who were there were already warming up. Megan and I arrived at close to the same time and she didnt already have a partner so we grabbed a ball and started playing catch. When everyone was all warmed up we walked across the field to watch the Purple team play the Spikes. I was hoping that Purple would win so they would go play Orange and we could start our game. When Purple team won I was happy for them. Also, though, I was a bit scared because I knew that their loss would only make them try harder.

A bit into the game, we had to take a brake. Our pitcher, Kelly Bowler, had a face that resembled a rather large tomato. She has very fair skin that is extremely sensitive to the sun. After Kelly was feeling we took the field again. Kelly easily struck out three Spikes in a row.

It was our turn up to bat. We were at the end of the batting order. One of our coaches, Mike, told us not to swing until we had one strike called on us. I could feel my heart pounding as I walked to the plate. The first two pitches were balls. The third and fourth were strikes. The next two pitches were balls so I walked.

Next up was Julie Cozzi. I was on first praying she would finally get a hit. She didnt. We all groaned. Then we were at the top of the batting order! Callon was up, our best hitter. On the first pitch Callon completely ignored Coach Mikes instructions and ripped one out to center field. That hit advanced me to third and Callon to second. Next up was Kelly. The first pitch was a ball. The second was as well. The third whizzed in and she went down for a bunt. Coach Mike told me not to go. Kelly had no choice and bolted. The Spikes catcher quickly picked up the ball and over threw it to first, bringing me home, Callon home, and Kelly to second.

Next up was Amanda. She hit it to left field and someone caught it. Last up was Alison. We were all counting on her. Whiz! Crack! Strike One! Whiz! Crack! Strike two! Whiz! Crack! Strike three! The crowd on the Spikes side was cheering. Then the catcher dropped the ball. Alison ran. I was on the edge of the bench. First, second, third! ALISON GOT A TRIPLE!!!!!! We all screamed.

We ended the game with a score of five to three. To celebrate our team all went out to Subway.

That morning I felt overwhelmed and nervous. Now I felt as if I was on top of the world! I felt like our team had just won the World Series!
