Dusty and the Boys
Samantha

Slowly as the door creaked open, the two black figures emerged into the room. Then, in a flash of gray, it lunged! VROOM! Our two jet-black five-year-old cats were coming face to face for the first time with our new kitten!

The kittens name is Dusty (and he was brand new to my house). My sister and I had only had him for less than a week. He was a stray so we had to keep him away from Blackie and Midnight, our older cats, in case he had a type of disease. After keeping Dusty in our room for a little while, we decided to introduce him to Blackie and Midnight. I wouldnt say it was a disaster when they met, but it wasnt a very pretty sight!

Blackie and Midnight joyfully entered the room like kids entering a candy store for the first time. They had no idea what was to come. Then my mom dropped the bomb almost literally! She had put Dusty on the floor and Blackie and Midnight took off so fast that they looked like drag racing cars!

Its O.K. Boys! my mom said softly. Thats Blackie and Midnights nickname, The Boys. The Boys slowly and cautiously re-entered the room. Then Dusty came from under the bed. He had popped out to take a look at The Boys. The Boys backed up a bit. Blackie puffed his tail to three times its normal size and hissed loudly. Dusty turned sideways and jumped back. It was so funny I almost fell off my bed! Then the introduction went outside of my room.

We have a banister near our stairs and The Boys were sitting on the stairs watching Dusty weave back and forth between the banister. It was almost as if Dusty was teasing them and saying, Ha! Ha! Youre too big to do this! Then Dusty lost his balance. He fell down three or four stairs. PLOP! BOING! THUD! CRASH! Then The Boys got so scared that they ran down the stairs and into the dining room!

O.K. thats enough for one day, my mom said.

I got up, grabbed Dusty, took him back into my room, and petted him a bit. He started to purr and I laughed and said, You silly little adventurer!

I was happy! Its not every day you get to introduce a kitten to older cats and have them get along. O.K., so they didnt get along, but they didnt hate each other either. I just couldnt wait until the next day to see the next encounter!
