| Across the Field Raise the colors Black and Gold Let the folks know Irmo's here Set the earth reverberating With a rousing cheer... GO IRMO! Hit 'em hard and see how they fall. Never let their team get the ball. Hail, Hail, the gangs all here And we're all here for Irmo High! (Thanks to Stephanie Thompson for racking her brain long enough to remember all of it ! Let it be known that our "Memories Page" researcher , Julie Walton Shaver, called Irmo High School to get the words, but was told, "There are no words to the Irmo Fight Song." But we, in the Class of 1982, know better than that!) The Irmo fight song is the same tune as the Ohio State University fight song. The Ohio Marching Band would spell out "Ohio" in cursive on the football field, and so the Irmo Band continued its tradition of following all-things-Ohio-State and spelled out "Irmo" in cursive. This is not an easy thing for a marching band to do, especially a high school band. A leader "walks" the path of the cursive writing, and 150 teenagers have to follow in his exact footsteps! |
