Hide & Seek Poetry by Iris Laureate

Hide & Seek
*~*
I’m hiding in the darkest corners of my heart
listening to things that go bump in my night
knowing the monsters are there
under the edge of my bed of sleeplessness
waiting to pull me under
waiting to devour me
I see their invisible fingers
I hear their deafening silence
I feel their hot breathe on my frozen soul
and I’m afraid
afraid to go with them
afraid to stay with myself
I long for the lightI fear it will not come
I can’t see you
I can’t hear you
I can’t feel you
I don’t know where you are
I don’t know how much longer I can hold on
here in the black hole of my being
deep within this abyss of my soul
Can you see me in my blindness?
Can you hear my silent screams?
Can you feel my paralyzing fear?
Do you know where I am?
Can you find me?
