| Everyone knows where all the major spots are (Eyre Square Galway, Baggot St', Dublin etc') and at most of these spots you'll be lucky to get a 15 minute skate in before getting kicked out. What I'd like to do is create a list of the more unusual street spots around the country such as... Hamills : A service station on the M4 just outside of Mullingar .It has a petrol station on each side of the motorway with a road running underneath the motorway to join them .The road is basically a big fullpipe with a one lane road in the middle. Bring a bit of sheet steel to get you over the shallow drainage channel and carve some wallrides! Worth checking out if you're passing.Similar to it is this one sent in by Bruce.... Check out the Nenagh bypass on the way to Limerick, there is an underpass similar to Hamills in Mullingar, with tight ass tranny wallrides, kinda like an upside-down egg. Watch for the sculpture of a bull and it's a mile or 2 down the road, in the direction of Limerick. It's the last underpass, you can see the top of the rails on your left as you head towards Limerick. It's pretty fun, the path is a little skinny to get any serious height but fun nonetheless. Also from Bruce comes reports that the aquapool in Belfast zoo is drained right now. If anyone gets to session that I'd love to see some photos, good luck! Anyone fancy digging out a pool !? Brittas bay-Wicklow abandoned hotel ~ Filled with rocks, Eniskillen 70's park ~ filled in, Inchydony abandoned hotel ~ full of water and weeds, Newbridge old swimming pool ~ full of slimy water, Lobster ponds - Castletownbere, West Cork ~ anyone got any idea on their current condition? Anyone living nearby e-mail me and I'll give you more info. The big old banked reservoir in Cork is still skateable too! Check this from top-a-de-mornin a Cork skate website ....Shanakiel resivoir. You all probably know the 2 big dome things you can see from the road up by the bad bend on Shanakiel hill, the reservoir is on this site, walk down and to your left and youll see a high wall, this is the wall of the reservoir just find an easy spot to climb (to the left) and your in but be very careful! This spot is apparently a bust so try not to get seen getting in. Anyone from Wicklow town I've heard of an abandoned pool there if you fancy checking whether it's skateable or not. I found some fun banks in Blanchardstown , Dublin recently only downpoint being they're in the middle of a roundabout!! Theres also a drainage resevoir at the end of a housing estate out the back of UCD along with some BMX trails in the woods on the way in. More dirt jumps are located in "Chuckies" a wooded corner of St' Annes Park, Raheny, Kilcoole in Wicklow,a few in Lord Masseys woods, Mount Pelier on the way to the Hellfire club Dublin/Wicklow mountains and the Quarry in Newry. Anyway you get the idea if you know of anything banked or transitioned or even a really good grind block send it in. I won't be bothering posting up anything that you can find in any urban space so don't bother sending something in unless it's a bit unusual. If anyone out there is willing to take a page out of Burnsides book and start doing some DIY building get in touch. Theres gotta be a suitable dry spot under a flyover somewhere! I'll be adding a ghetto ramp page to the site soon with some building tips for the plywood liberation front. Lastly I've found a spot similar to the old civic offices grindblock in central Dublin but I wont post it yet untill I suss out how much of a bust it is. |
