At the age of two years, Sanford & Max Ragle, his brother, climbed up into a medicine cabinet and got some pills that had candy coating on them. Sanford ate the pills and had convulsions and died. Max only sucked the candy coating off the outside of the pills and didn't swalllow the rest of the pills, and therefore he didn't become ill.
