The Christmas Tree Fairies

Gather around, Children, and listen, for there is a story that must be told.  Have you ever wondered what makes a Christmas Tree glow?  Deep in every Christmas Tree lives a sprite called a Christmas Tree fairy.  This is their story.

Many years ago, when Christmas first began, families would gather in the forests to find the perfect tree.  A Christmas Tree was believed to bring good luck.  After choosing the best tree, each family would then bring it into their home and begin to decorate it with wild berries, silver bells and lighted candles.

One night, a farmer was sitting admiring his tree, when he realized that the decorations seemed to shine all on their own.  This was very strange indeed since he had not yet- lit the candles.  As he watched, he noticed that the tree branches moved, ever so slightly and as they did, the silver bells would chime quietly.

When he looked closer into the tree, the farmer glimpsed a sparkle of fairy dust as something flew by, much too fast for him to see what it was.  It was then that the farmer remembered a story his grandmother told him at Christmas, when he was a young boy.  She said that it was believed that the Christmas Tree Fairies were born only once a year, around the Christmas season, when a snowflake hit a branch of an evergreen tree.  These fairies made sure that after the tree was decorated, the ornaments shone, the bells chimed sweetly, and the candles glowed brightly.  A Christmas Tree Fairy lived within its tree with the sole purpose of making sure that anyone who saw the tree would truly believe that this tree was the most beautiful Christmas tree ever seen.  Once Christmas was over and the tree removed, these fairies would melt away.

The farmer smiled, remembering his grandmothers story and the idea of fairies being born again to make another tree shine.  He, lit the tree candles and sat back to enjoy the wonderful work his own Christmas Tree Fairy was doing

So, Children, try to remember this year, when you see the lights shine or hear the bells chime softly on your own Christmas tree, that you have a very special friend visiting.  If youre lucky, you may even catch a glimpse of fairy dust as your own Christmas Tree Fairy goes about doing her job.
