After many years of being out of touch, Matthew's brother Devin,
searched out his younger brother. After finding out that his brother had
done well for himself rebuilding old motorcycles, Devin asked Matthew
for a loan to start up an Irish Pub.
Matthew, who was still a little bitter after his brother left years ago,
refused to loan him the money, instead Matthew would own the place,
while Devin ran it.
After 13 months, Matthew, and Devin had the Night Owl open to the
public. Having taken so long find the staff that they wanted, and
agreeing to what the Night Owl would be like.
Devin, and Matthew are half brothers. Devin was the first to be born, and
hardly saw his father, who later had an affair with Matthew's mother.
When Matthew was named, his mother gave him his real fathers last
name, as a middle name. He was raised by Dwayne Brenden, who taught
him how to work on motorcycles. Dwayne had always treated Matthew
like his own, till the day he died.
Devin came to live with the Brenden family after his mother died, and
his father left. Dwayne had always said that a brother was the best friend
that you could ever have, and he took Devin in as his own, so that the & boys would grow up together.
Devin being bitter after his real father left, would always fight with
Dwayne, and take things out on Matthew. Quickly, Matthew learned
how to fight back, and soon Devin could no longer beat on his little
brother. Once he was 18 Devin left to join the Irish gypsies, and did not
see his brother again, till the age of 23.
Matthew was at Dwayne's funeral, and Devin showed up, after the body
was laid to rest, Matthew beat up his brother, and told him never to come
back home again. Hurt that his brother would think that he did not care
for the old man that had raised him, Devin did as he was told, and did
not see Matthew for another 4 years.
In the time that Devin was gone, Matthew took up stealing old
motorcycles, and redoing them, and selling them for good money. Later
after a few close calls, and much trouble, Matthew took over his fathers
business of motorcycle repair. Working on old bikes, and doing it the
legal way. Matthew soon had enough money to move to the United
States.
Once he moved into a New York warehouse, his business grew, taking
on a young helper in the shop named Brody Keenan. He treated Brody
like a brother, seeing in him a little to much of his brother Devin. Then
one night, his brother Devin showed up on his door step. Devin asked
Matthew for money, and this did not go well. That night Devin, and
Matthew were roughed up a bit.
The next week was hell, and when Devin had a close call with trying to
barrow the money from someone else, Matthew decided to help his
brother. One thing he told Devin though, was that Matthew would own
the club, and have the last on anything Night Owl.
A year and a month later, the Night Owl was up and running under
Devin's supervision, while Matthew ran his shop. Soon the Night Owl
was the hottest place in NYC, and that brought in the interesting crowds.
Keeping the Mob out was a hard thing to do, seeing that they tried to
muscle money out of Devin, and Matthew.
Now the Night Owl is considered neutral ground, but still the calm could
be shattered at anytime, and the brothers are ready to protect what they
have worked hard for.
