Gabriel Michael Richart |
This page is for my son.He was still born on Jan 28,2003.he had a fatal birth defect, named anencephaly, along with spina bifida. This defect, had i known, could have been, prevented with only 400 mg of folic acid daily. The Naval Hospital Camp LeJuene,N.C., has started a folic acid awareness progrem, named Project Gabriel. My husband and i ,plan to bring our story out to people,to make them aware of the need of takeing folic acid BEFORE you get pregnant. |
Gabriel's story:We found out only 1 1/2 months after getting married that we were pregnant. We were excited. However on a warm september day we went into get a regular ultrasound and found out our baby had a fatal birth defect. This defect is called anencephaly. Most people do not know of this disease but do know of spina bifida, which both are neural tube birth defects.Between the time we got the diagnoses and the time we had our angel ,we went to alot of docotrs visits. One docotr we had to see monthy was Dr.Jeffrey Wright ,of Atlantic Fetal Medicine,in Williamington,N.C. Then Jan 6th,2003 came.We went in for a normal level II ultrasound, like normal for us.And found out my amnio water was getting a little high ;however they decided to do nothing about it. The middle of the month i started having contractions, but no dialiation, which they say was caused to the water level. On jan 24th,2003,i went to my normal ob doctor,DR. Haas, with the ob/gyn clinic,on base.My uterus was measuring 43 weeks pregnant,i was only 35 1/2 weeks. So ,on monday ,Jan.27th,2003,we went back to Williamington. My water was now dangerously high. The risk included uterus possibly rupturing,or my water breaking and the placenta rupture. Also,Gabriel's little heartbeat was fading. So i was admitted to Naval Hospital Camp Lejuene. There they monitored me all night, checking Gabriel's heartbeat every hour.It went down to 112 beat. However the last two times before he was born it was 130.That morning at 8:02 am,on Jan28.2003,Gabriel was stillborn. The saddest day of my life.he weight 1 pound and 12.8 oz.he was 11 inches long. The doctors expected him to weigh more,i was 36 weeks. But brain mass weighs alot.We wanted to donote his tissues ,however,he was just too small. He was laid to rest at ST.Joseph's Catholic Church ,in North Vernon ,Indiana on Feb.6th,2003.One month to the day we found out my amnio water was getting high, and that we might not be able to carry to term.Gabriel is now in Heaven with all the others that have gone beforehim and unfortunaly after him. With project Gabriel we hope to make a difference so less ,if not none, babies will have to go to be with God. |

LITTLE ANGELS When God calls little children to dwell with Him above, We mortals sometime question the wisdom of His love. For no heartache compares with the death of one small child Who does so much to make our world seem wonderful and mild. Perhaps God tires of calling the aged to His fold, So he picks a rosebud before it can grow old. God knows how much we need them, and so He takes but few to make the land of Heaven more beautiful to view. Believing this is difficult still somehow we must try,The saddest word mankind knows will always be "Goodbye." Sowhen a little child departs, we who are left behind Must realize God loves children, Angels are hard to find. |
