Herding. It's what GSD's were first bred for, and they can still do it. Most GSD's already have an instinct to herd in them. Just like a Lab having an instinct to retrieve in them. Even Iris has some herding instincts in her.
In AKC herding, you can get titles for the dog herding ducks, sheep and cattle. Of course what everyone strives for is the title "HC" Herding Champion. This test is extreamly hard, and only the best can make it here.
I would like to do herding with Iris, although she's getting old fast! So, with my next GSD, I'd like to try herding. It's very interesting going to a trial and listening to the handlers whistles and the dogs responding with such enthusiam. It's especially fun to watch a GSD in action doing what they were bred to do!
