Quizzes and exams are based on in-class instruction and homework assignments. Completing your homework regularly is very important for your success in class and your development of the English language.
Homework will be due at the beginning of each class. I will check for completion of the assignment and stamp it before we go over it as a whole class. You may complete your homework in pencil so you can make corrections easier. I WILL NOT ACCEPT WORK WRITTEN IN COLORS OTHER THAN BLACK OR BLUE!! Late work is not accepted. If you have a valid excuse (illness, etc.), you will have the exact number of days you were absent to make up the assignment(s).
I suggest that you exchange phone numbers with a reliable classmate so that in the event of an absence, work can be easily accessed
PARTICIPATION
Participation is very important for your English language development. The more you participate the better, because you practice your skills. Be polite! Remember to always raise your hand and wait until you are called on before you speak! Give everyone a chance to participate! I will not hold an incorrect answer against you as long as you try and as long as you put thought into your answers.
ACADEMIC HONESTY
During testing there is to be NO talking or moving around. If you make the poor choice to be involved in academic dishonesty, the following consequences will apply:
1. You will receive and F. 2. You will call your parent(s)/guardian and tell them about your poor choice.
3. You will be cheating yourself of your own education.
4. Your citizenship grade will be lowered
5. You will need to earn my respect and trust back.
SMART TIME-MANAGEMENT
While in ELD class, use your time wisely. If you finish your work early and I have not given another assignment to work on, you may choose from the following list
1.Review your work (you should always do this anyway)
2. Help a friend who is struggling�. struggling is the mother of opportunity�the opportunity to grow, learn, and improve!!!
3. Look ahead to the next lesson to get a head start!
BATHROOM PASSES
Please use the restroom during passing breaks. I will NOT issue bathroom passes. If you have a special condition that necessitates leaving the classroom on a bathroom pass, then I will need a note from either the school nurse or your parent(s) that an exception for you is needed.
SCHOLARSHIP ASSESSMENT/GRADE
Your total grade is based on the following categories and percentages:
Exams: 35%
Quizzes: 15%
Class/Homework & Computer: 25%
Oral Presentation: 10%
Participation: 15%
A new grading period is started after each trimester.

It is mandatory that you keep this course syllabus and refer to it throughout the year, so that there are no uncertainties as to what I expect from you as a student in this class. Your first homework assignment is to find a time convenient for you and your parent(s) or guardian(s) to read and discuss the course expectations for ELD, and return the last page to me within one week. I will check once in a while if you keep the syllabus in your notebook. If you do I will give you extra participation points.
