    MISSION STATEMENT

    The term public library connotes that
    the library offers services to all people without discrimination.
    Services are open to people of all ages, level of education and sex.
    The library stock and facilities, therefore, reflect this diversity of the clientele.
    The mission statement of Iringa Regional Library can be summarized into:
        
  • To serve all of the people in the region with timely, accurate information,
  •     
  • To support formal and informal education and life-long learning process,
  •     
  • To encourage the appreciation of local tradition, To assist local research,
  •     
  • To preserve local history information material for future use,
  •     
  • To provide to the community facilities for learning, leisure and culture;
    a place where the people could spend their spare time more fruitfully.
  •     





    SERVICE PROVIDED

    Iringa Regional Library provides the following services;
        
  • Reference services
  •     
  • Book loans for home reading
  •     
  • Advisory and consultancy services to all other types of libraries,
    e. g. government, institutional, school and college libraries etc.
  •     
  • Civic education
  •     
  • Meeting room and facilities
  •     
  • Reading space for its users





    OPENING HOURS

    Iringa Regional Library is open to the public as follows;
   
    Monday-Friday     9:00am-6:00pm
    Saturday     8:00am-2:00pm
    * The library remains closed on Sundays and public holidays.





    MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENT

    Library services are open to all people in the society with no discrimination of any kind.
        
  1. All people who are residents of Iringa Municipal Council can join membership of the library.
    Non-residents of the Municipal Council are not legible to become members.
    However, teachers from Iringa Rural District and Kilolo District can register for membership.
  2.     
  3. Payment of registration fee as follows;
            - Adult : Tsh. 3,000 per annum
            - Secondary school students : Tsh. 2,000 per annum
            - Pre-school and Primary school pupils : Tsh. 1,000 per annum
            - Temporary membership fee : Tsh. 500 per day
            - Institutions : Tsh. 20,000 per annum     
  4. Grantor: Employers for employees; Principals / Headmasters / Headmistresses /
    Headteachers for school children and students; Ward Authorities for others.
  5.     
  6. 2 pictures (passport or stamp size).

    After registering, each member will be provided 2 tickets for non-teachers, 4 tickets for teachers,
    and a library identity card to allow hism / her to borrow books.





    USE OF THE LIBRARY

        
  • Admission to the library is for members only.
    The library identity card must be presented at the counter when entering the library.
  •     
  • All packages and bags must be left at the deposit counter.
  • Members are not allowed to make noise, eat food or use cellular phone in the library.





    BORROWING

    There are about 15,000 books in the library.
    Members can borrow up to 2 BOOKS at a time for 2 WEEKS.
        
  • A book may be renewed if it has not been requested by another member.
  •     
  • Reference books and newspapers are available only inside the library.
  •     
  • New books are displayed in front of the main entrance of the library for 7 days.
    During this period the books cannot be checked out, but can be reserved.





    USE OF THE MEETING ROOM & FACILITIES

    The library has a meeting room and facilities available for public use.
    The meeting room can accommodate about 50 people
    and the rental fee is Tsh. 15,000 per day.
