Improve Your Smile
Having confidence in the way we look
and smile can play a major part in our overall ‘feel good’ factor and well
being.
Many people are unhappy with, or conscious of, their
smile and have aspects of it that they would like to change - it might
be crooked or stained teeth, missing teeth causing gaps, yellow teeth or
perhaps black or silver coloured fillings; it may even be more subtle than
that, with a crown not as well matched to your other teeth as it could
be, or it may show a dark line near the gum.
All of these aspects in their own way can cause concern. At the Dental Professional Center we are aware of this and continually strive to develop and improve our range of cosmetic dental treatments. We are also conscious of the cost and have payment options suitable to most people.
Here are a range of highly successful and safe treatments that can be applied.
Veneers
Front teeth are, of course, right
in the front line of everyone’s smile. Teeth which are misplaced, heavily
stained or have several fillings can have a thin sliver of porcelain bonded
to the front surface, to mask the underlying tooth. This process involves
slight preparation of the tooth and a visit to the ceramicist to assess
the best combination of shades, hence a quick and painless solution with
no long term effect on an otherwise healthy tooth.
Crowns
The late 1980s and early 1990s
saw an explosion in new aesthetic materials; all round veneers, opalescent
porcelains, Inceram and Empress to name but a few. These have led to crowns
that are virtually indistinguishable from natural teeth.
How is a crown placed?
Several steps
are involved in placing a crown. Usually at least two visits are necessary.
We will prepare the tooth by removing the outer portion of your tooth to
accommodate the thickness of the crown. If the tooth has a filling, part
of the material may be left in place to serve as a foundation for the crown.
An impression is made to provide an exact model of the prepared tooth.
Our dental laboratory, following the instructions from us, will then make
the crown from the model.
"Temporary" crowns (often made of acrylic resins) are placed while the permanent crown is made. If the shape or length of your teeth are changed for cosmetic purpose, for example, temporary crowns will allow you to become accustomed to this change. They can also help you decide if you like what you see or if there are any changes that you would like made before the permanent crowns are placed.
When the permanent crown is ready, we will put it in place and make the necessary adjustment. To see how your crown will look, you can use a large mirror held at arms length in various types of lighting. When you are satisfied with your appearance, the crown will be cemented in place.
Bridges
Bridges, which replace missing
teeth, have benefited from many of the advances in crown technology. Adhesive
bridges can now be placed at the front of the mouth with very minimal destruction
to existing teeth.
A conventional bridge has replacement teeth
that are attached to crowns.
The crowns are placed over the natural
teeth on either side of the space to be filled.

Before After
A Maryland bridge has replacement teeth
that are attached to the back of nearby natural teeth using a wing.
This type of bridge may be an option if
the teeth next to the bridge are in good condition.
Composite Fillings
White or tooth coloured fillings
are fully available at sensible cost these days due to the development
of special dentine bonding systems, hybrid materials and other sophisticated
technological advancements. They not only look better but they last longer
too.

All the above treatments are readily
available at the Dental Clinic and all can play their part in making us
feel more confident, happy and satisfied with the way people see us and
with the overall ‘sparkle’ of our smile. Talk to us - we are happy to help.
