Plant Remains from Liman Tepe and Bakla Tepe (Izmir) , Turkey

Carbonized plant remains from the Late Chalcolithic and the Early Bronze Age levels at Liman Tepe and Bakla Tepe in the vicinity of Izmir have been uncovered during the 1996 excavation season. The samples are dominated by cereal grains. Hulled barley is the main crop with some einkorn wheat and emmer wheat. Pulses, such as lentil and common vetch, have been found in small numbers. A single seed of grape from each site has also been recorded. The results of our examination may provide some insight into agricultural practice in Late Chalcolithic and Early Bronze Age times in this part of the Aegean region of Anatolia.
