Something about myself...

It was a pitch black stormy night, too late in the night for actually any decent people to stay up and monitor a childbirth, when I was pushed out from my mother's womb with a determined cry in a hospital in middle Finland. When my feet made contact with the cold and crudesome world and released the pain that my mother had been suffering from, I guess I accepted that I had become a citizen of earth. The peaceful lulling in the womb was over.  I was born in central Finland but luckily raised in the coastal city of Hanko, Finland where I became fond of nature and the stormy sea.
I went to school in Ressun Lukio which is situated in the heart of Helsinki. After graduating I headed off to Southern California where I studied journalism at Orange Coast College. I have always resided close to the sea or ocean and would feel suffocated if I had to live in the central part of a country. I love traveling and have been in many places. Yet it seems that there are still so much to see and experience in our planet. I've been to the long caressing shores of the Surfer's Paradise in Australia, walked in the tropical forest of Brazil, slept under the bright stars in California and frozen my butt off in Central Europe. Also five years in Stockholm, Sweden, where I attended the university, made me realize that people really are made of the same stuff. I fell in love with the internationality of the city and the water (surprise), that surrounds the city leaping between different parts of the city, were bridges separate rich from the poor.

I enjoy life, being here in Finland and gradually creating a home with someone worthwhile. I look forward to every morning and rejoice the things that I have; love, warmth, friends, family and much more. I'm an urban individual with a hint of countryside in me. The combination of big city hustle and bustle entwined with relaxing in a cabin by the sea miles from other civilization is a perfect combination.

Writing and music have always been an important part of my life. I started playing the piano in music conservatory when I was 6 years old and when I was an exchange student in the United States I traveled through clarinet to find my favorite instrument: the saxophone. Since then I’ve played in a big band and a Brazilian Samba-Reggae group and both groups have been great fun!

Writing became a permanent part of me when I was only a 3rd grader in the elementary school and started discovering the soothing pleasures that creating words had on me. I wrote about my feelings, friends, family, of course in a not so advanced way, but it gave me such pleasure that I have been writing ever since. I studied journalism in the United States and worked as a journalist both in California and in Finland. I also attended a creative writing class at the University of Stockholm and fell completely in love with short story and novel writing. Lately I’ve scribbled some poems as well and they’ve done all right in competitions. Aurora, the novel, which you can get a glimpse of on this site, is my longest and dearest writing process. I do intend to finish the book soon. Writing is therapy for me but at the same time something that I plainly enjoy doing: piling those letters in front of each other that create words and sentences and finally something (perhaps) meaningful.

Well this is me in a nut shell. If you like to know more send an email my way!

Carpe diem!
