The Myth of Cerridwen
Cerridwen is the mother goddess in this tradition. She is often seen as a crone in others, or as a sort of woman between crone and mother. Her children are grown, but it is clear that she loves them greatly.
She has three children with her husband Tedgid Voel and they live at the bottom of Lake Bala in northen Wales. They are her oldest son Avagddu, her daughter Creirwy, and he other son Morfan.
Ironically Avagddu is the ugliest child in the world, while his sister Creirwy is the most beautiful and she is a ballerina. Morfan was also ugly, but he joined King Arthur's warriors, because he was so ugly no enemies could kill him because they were afraid.
However,  Cerridwen needed her oldest son to find gainful employment and a wife because he needs to provide for her and Tedgid when she is too old.
So she got out her special cauldron and hired a local boy name Gwion Bach to stir the cauldron for a year and a day, while Cerridwen collected the herbs and did the magick. In the cauldron she was making a potion to give Avagddu all the knowledge and wisdom of the world so he would not only be the ugliest man, but the smartest man. And who needs looks when you are really smart?
So on the last day Gwion is stirring and really bored and he stirs it too hard and three drops splash on his finger. He instinctively puts his finger in his mouth, and suddenly he has all the knowledge of the world. Strangly enough the rest of the broth is rendered useless.
Gwion, knowing how pissed Cerridwen will be, runs off. But Cerridwen realizes this and chases that mofo down. First Gwion turns into a hare to escape, but Cerridwen turns into a greyhound. Then he becomes a fish, and she becomes a otter. Then he becomes a bird, and she a hawk. Lastly he turns into a piece of grain, and Cerridwen, always one step ahead of him, turns into a chicken and eats him.
Then  when Cerridwen turns back into a person she finds out that she is pregnant with the new incarnation of Gwion Bach, Taliesin.
Cerridwen was still pissed off about Avagddu not getting to drink the smartness potion so when Gwion Bach was reborn as Taliesin she tried to kill him, but found that it was impossible because of the power he recieved from the Awen broth.
So she put him in a bag and threw him in the river and figured whatever will be will be.

Avagddu later found that he was smart anyway and that he just had to stop being lazy in order to get a wife and a job. And Cerridwen had gone through all that for nothing, but she did it because she loved her son.
Taliesin went on to become a great bard and druid and credited Cerridwen with his wisdom. Since then Cerridwen has been known as a protective goddess of poetry, inspiration, wisdom, and knowledge.
