We are what we are! Along the foothills of
the eastern
end of the chain of Alps, at the very tip of the most northerly
Mediterranean bay open towards Hungary - and the south, it is a natural
hub of European routes, from north to south and west to east. From its
Alpine peaks to its Adriatic coast, its Panonian plains to the lowlands,
Slovenia has the capacity to draw in the outsider to charm, amaze,
infuriate, and in short to
do all those things which one would normally associate
with the greater nations of the world.
The youngest country in the world!
is ironically peopled by one of the oldest, and most
diverse nation in Europe. IT is a modern, progressive
democracy joining the mainstream of European
integration. |

BUSINESS DESTINATION SLOVENIA
Republic of Slovenia:
Parliamentary democracy
Slovenia is one of the youngest European countries,
having become an independent state in 1991. Slovenia
became the 176th member of the UN and is a full member
of Central European Free Trade Agreement, a participant
in NATOs Partnership for Peace, a founding member of
WTO and an associate member of the EU, and nonpermanent member of UN
Security Council..
Slovenia is distinguished by the varied mosaic of its
landscape which stretches between the Adriatic Sea and
the Alps. The melting of the Alpine, Panonian,
Dinaric and Mediterranean worlds, each leaving its own
mark, creates a unique countryside, which is for the
most
green. It is a largely mountainous country, almost
half of it covered by forests. Cultivated areas with
pastures, fields, vineyards and orchards over 43 percent
of the country. More than one half of the population
lives in towns, most of which date from Roman
times. The mountain tops rise to more than 2500 meters
in height - Triglav 2864 m is the highest Slovene
mountain, but the southeastern parts slowly changes
into wide plateaus.
Slovenia sharing borders with Italy, Hungary, Austria
and Croatia offers itself as an ideal outlet for
business ventures of any kind. A population of two
Million and GNP of 12.000 it generates an GNP of USD
18,5billion annually and conducts foreign trade worth
more than 25 billion USD. It further has free trade
agreements with most European countries. It holds the
strategic Adriatic seaport of Koper, an economic free
zone and intensive shipping and other logistical and
transport links in the Mediterranean and the Middle
East, and further to Europe. It offers also other
essential infrastructure. Privatization has been
successfully completed. |

..and last, my friends, come hither,
Lets raise unto ourselves a toast!
For we have come together,
the common good we cherish most
God, we praise, Grant us days
in plenty, for our virtuous ways |

Slovene is the mother tongue of relatively
small, and independent nation, Slovenia. It used to be language that
played a key role at
critical junction of Slovene history. But the distillation of a modern
Slovene consciousness in the nineteen century was made possible only by
the work of France Prešeren. When Slovenes were able to form a nation out
of disparate and disparaged parts, it was Prešerens poetry as their
touchstone. And even at the end of the twentieth century his impact
continues to be felt, Slovenes turned to Prešeren for their
national anthem. OF such stuff is a "national poet" in fact
made....
I
n hope, in dread long did I dwell,
To hope and fear I said farewell
My heat, now empty, holds no cheer
It yearns again for hope and fear....
This my poem is a vessel which contains your name
Monarch of my heart, the Kingdom wherein reign your
name...
In it I shall to my Slovene brothers gladly bring
from the west into the east those sweet refrains--
your name..
On the vessel, etched in golden letters, will be read
by all peoples, the great glory which attains,
your name...
... if a seed one day sprout, why, he who sows it
does not know,
If a sapling will have branches, he who grows,
it does not know
having roamed the world, the trader plans what he has
gained,
if he can expect some profits to dispose,
he does not know
and the soldier, whom the trumpet bids to hear the
cannons roar,
what his pay for heat and thirst and wounding blows,
he does not know
Lo! the poet of these ghazals, if you read them or do
not
and if seeing them may melt your hearts cold snow -
he does not know.
.... deeps wishes full of longing
have been born
that fame will make up name
through yours, so proud!
while our sweet native songs resound
in turn....
... and they will blossom them with pleasure
proud
as flowers bid farewell to winter gales
anew the springtime miracle prevails
and scatters over the trees a floral crowd....
A wreath of Sonnets:
for Slovenes I a poets wrath devise,
I fifteen sonnets will together weave
and so a thrice-sung Master Theme conceive
that it with all the rest will harmonize.
Within my theme the sonnets sources rise,
in turn therein their endings they retrieve,
their first and last lines, braided, interweave,
this wreath your poet thus personifies
the fount of all my thoughts one love supreme
they wake as dark gives way to dawns ascent,
when they have slept inert through nightly dream.
Of my whole life are you the ornament:
when I am gone will sound the Master Theme,
Of both my pain, your praise a monument.....
