2 passes back to 1
1 passes on to 3

2 fills the line of the runner (to eventually make the basket)
1 leaves the scene and waits in the next line

--> another option:

2 passes to 1
1 passes again to 2
and 2 passes back to 1
then 1 passes on to 3

--> another option: (at least with 11 players)

5 follows 2 as he runs towards the basket

(later on 3 should pass to 2, who makes the lay-up, but in stead of actually making the goal, he throws the ball straight up and 5 tips him in)

4) 3 dribbles to the top, passes to 2 and moves in to take the rebound.

Please mark that I'm not speaking of real game-alike rebounding. The rebounder should give faith to his mate and presumes his mate will score.

--> this is where 3 should pass as soon as possible in the second option I gave before

5) 2 makes the basket

(2 handclaps from everyone - even the mams and dads next to the court - who's not carrying a ball)

--> In the second option I gave before 2 shouldn't make the basket, but 5 should tip him in.

6) 3 takes the rebound and waits in the next row.
2 fills the next row, passing by the coach.

(This gives the coach an opportunity to encourage his player once again)

--> In the second option 5 should run as 2 does but he has to get back in the line he came from. Now to give the "tip-in-pass"

8 players or more - 2 balls

On both sides we have one player at the sideline (free throw line extended), one in the corner at the baseline, one at the left elbow and one at the right elbow. The same action takes place on the other half with players 5 (1), 6 (2), 7 (3) and 8 (4).

Player 1 passes to 3.

2) Player 3 passes to 2 and runs wide.

3) Player 2 passes to 4.

4) Player 4 passes to 3.

5) Player 3 finishes with a lay-up (or a shot, whatever the coach has decided).

6) 1 becomes 3
2 becomes 1
4 becomes 2

7) Player 3 catches his own rebound and dribbles towards midcourt.

8) Player 3 passes to player 7.

9) Player 3 becomes player 8 and so on.

Coburg weave

1) Player 1 passes to either wing (Player 2 in diagram), and then runs to touch side line.  Player 2 passes ball to Player 3, and runs to touch side line.

Player 3 completes lay-up.  Pass should be timed so that Player 3 does not need to dribble.

2) After shooting lay-up, player 3 runs to opposite side line.  Player 1 rebounds shot (it must not hit the floor) and passes to Player 2.  Player 1 then runs to side line.  Player 2 does lay-up.

3) After Player 2 shoots lay-up, they run to opposite side line.  Player 3 rebounds (ball must not hit floor) and passes to Player 1 for lay-up.

Player 2 rebounds and outlets to Player 3.  The players then return to mid-court.

Alternatively, passive defence can be added.

Dribble shot

1) 6 or more players 4 balls.

This drill start by dribbling to the opposite site of the court at the extended top of the 3 point line. The players cut to the the corner of the bucket. They make a jumpstop and take a jump shot.

2) After taking the shot the players rebound the ball and give an outlet pass to the player without the ball.

The player receiving the ball from the outlet pass must wait behind the baseline until the ball is rebounded.

Variations.
Lay-ups
shot from the other side.

Focus drill

1) FOCUS DRILL;
With this drill you warm up with passing, back to front pivot ball sweep, triple threat, fake pass to set up cut, touch pass back, dribbling around picks right and left hand, to taking shot off of pick, boxing out all under 1 minute.
NOW YOU SEE WHERE THE FOCUS HAS TO BE THERE!
I am currently using this drill with 10, 11 year old girls. I gave it to them in stages. We are currently under 1:10 , looking better all the time.

10 to 12 players-matching up positions.
spaced key width apart.
Start at baseline with 2 balls, they pick the pass (bounce, chest). The rest deliver what ever pass they receive.

2) When the ball gets to half court.
The players pivot away from basket (stress teamwork have them wait and do this together until they get it down). Then you can turn this into a race for fun) The next (2) moves up to defend, everyone else moves up one slot.
When both are in  position to start it goes like this:
      1) Pivot toward basket using strong ball sweep from HEAD TO HIP ending in triple threat position. (STRESS sweep must be within their space, arms cannot be extended)
      2) With  (2) playing close defense, fake high pass making defender tall step right or left giving bounce pass to (3). Immediately stepping out after pass to receive touch pass right back.

3)  3) Dribble weave around 1st pick (4) , taking shot around 2nd pick (5). (STRESS switching hands keeping ball between their body and defender. Teach proper way to set pick)

4) 4) After (1)'s takes shots (5)'s box out (1)'s rebound pivot deliver ball to (4)'s.

5) 5) (4)'s give the ball back to (1)'s who start passes from the baseline.

6) Believe it or not this can be done with 10 girls in under 1 minute. Give it to them in stages, you can see how easily it can be broken down.
When it is all together it not only teaches all fundamentals it makes them think about the skills they will need going into the game.
It will make them focus without even realizing it.
I've had several people approach me about this drill, so here it is.

                 Wes Steinacker

7) That's all folks !
Its easy !
Its fun to watch when they start clicking at a good speed !!

Please don not give up on fundamentals done correctly for speed.
I Believe you will agree the skill levels of these kids is so important, lets treat it as so.

       HAVE FUN AT ALL TIMES!

2) Player number 1 goes to the midline.

and player 5 takes makes his lay-up.

3) Player 7 takes the rebound and gives an
(outlet) pass to player 3. He/she continues after his ball to the baseline corner.

Player 5 goes to the midline behind player 8

Player 2,6 and 8 started with there rotation.

Variations:

Lay ups full court

1) 10 or 8 players / 4 balls
6 players / 2 balls

All players take the position of their predecessor, while rotating.

While moving 3/7 get the ball, make a fast dribble and a lay-up.
4/8 get the rebound and give an outlet pass to the top of the bucket (1/5).
At the same time 2/6 start, catch the ball in the air and without making travelling begin their dribble and make the lay-up.
The outlets (1/5) take their positions

This can also be played without a rebounder. 3/7 should take their own rebound and pass the ball to the top

Variantion: stop + shot
or stop + rocker step
or lay in (no dribble within 3 point area)

Pass layup

1) For this drill 8 or more players and 2 or more balls are needed.

This drill start with a dribble to the middle line
by player 1 and 5.

2) When add the middle line they pass to the corner and start cutting to the basket.

The pass can be given out of the dribble or after a jump stop on the middle line.

3) Player 3 and 7 pass the ball back to player 1 and 5 who will make a lay-up.

Player 3 and 7 will follow the ball for the rebound.

4) Player 3 and 7 will make the rebound and pass out to players 6 and 2 and follow to that corner.
Player 1 and 5 go to the corner of 4 and 8.

To speed up the drill use more balls.

Options:
This drill can be run with left and right handed lay-ups.

Instead of the lay-up a jump shot can be taken outside the bucket area.

Pass lay-up rebound dribble

1) For this drill 6 or more players can be used.

I like this drill due to the amount of motion and the number of skills you can practice.

It starts with half of the  players on the midline and half of the players at the sideline.

Player 1 passes the ball to player 4.Who passes the ball back to player 1.

2) Player 1 makes his layup while going straight for the board.

Player 4 takes a good rebound.

3) Player 4 starts his dribble to the other side of the court. (In this case with the left hand which is often the weak  hand of players)

Player 1 goes to the row on the sideline.

4) Player 4 starts makes his left handed lay-up and takes his own rebound.

Player 2 and 5 start with the drill

5) Player 4 takes his own rebound and passes the ball to 3 who will then start.

Variations.
Change the passes from chest to overhead, bounce or (for the half court pass) baseball pass.

Instead of the lay-ups shots can be taken.

Put a pylon on the floor and let the players in the dribble make a cross-over or a (spin) reverse.

And as always it can be run the other way around.

6 or more players 2 balls.

This is a full court warming up drill, with six players it can be intensive, you might want to use it after the warming up.

Player 3 gives an outlet pass to player 2. (Overhead or push bounce depending on defence, height of the player etc)

Player 3 goes around player 2 to the other side of the court.

Meanwhile player 2 passes the ball to guard 1

Everyone follows his or her pass and you can see that as (3) passed to the cutter than he/she goes to the end of the cutters line.

This is quite a simplistic drill but gets better as you add balls to the line.

I have run this drill for 10 years and use 3 balls to keep everyone on their toes.

This drill teaches:
Passing - outlet, skip (overhead), chest and push.
Timing - the basis to any structured offense, the cutter does no leave until the strong side wing receives the ball.
Conditioning - watch them run.

Shoot box boards outlet

1) Player 1 shoots, if basket is made the player shoots again.

If the basket isn't made. Player 1 in defense box's out the shooter. Player 1 in offense try's to rebound.

2) Player 1 in defense after boxing out shooter goes for rebound.

3) After player 1 in defense has rebound they are to pass the ball out to the outlet player 2.

4) Player 2 is then to pass the ball to player 3.

Player 3 can then shoot a three pointer or go to the free throw line.

5) Now player 3 becomes the shooter and the other players rotate clockwise.

Thats the end of the drill.

Star drill 2

1) 5 and 6 start with balls, could have 7 and 8 start with balls as well, for our purposes only 5 and 6 will start with them.

5 and 6 will make a diagonal pass at the same time, 5 will bounce pass to 2 and 6 will chest pass to 1. Must be one bounce and one chest.

After they pass they will follow their pass.

2) As 1 and 2 catch their respective passes they hold the ball in their outside hand like on a serving platter.

5 and 6 following their passes pick up the ball from 1 and 2, and chest pass to 4 and 3 respectively in the corners.

3) As soon as the balls are taken from them 1 and 2 run to the corners near centre court.

4) After 5 and 6 make the pass to the corners. They shuffle across to the opposite elbows

At the same time 3 will pass to 1 and 4 will pass to 2 when they are in position.

Since you always follow your pass, 3 will start to go to 1's spot and 4 will start to go to 2's spot as soon as 1 and 2 catch.

5) 5 and 6 upon catching the balls from 1 and 2 will hold the ball out for a hand off on the inside of the lane.

1 and 2 following their passes will run to the elbows to pick up the ball from 5 and 6.

3 and 4 have followed their passes and now trail behind 1 and 2.

6) 1 and 2 will lay the balls off of the backboard for 3 and 4 , who have followed close behind to catch in the air and also lay off the board.

7) 3 and 4 also lay off the board.

As 3 and 4 pass them, 5 and 6 will follow, and time the pass off the backboard, 5 and 6 will catch the ball in the air and finish an alley oop in the basket.

8) If the two balls go in then all the players clap twice, if only one ball goes in then only clap once, and so on.

1 and 2 will stay in the corners.

3 and 4 will take and outlet pass and go behind 7 and 8 in line.

The players who shot will go to the elbows.

9) If done smoothly and correctly, both lines should finish at the same time.

This drill works on, passing, timing, rebounding, finishing after a miss, cuts, following ones pass, etc.
