    By the numbers

    1) Setup

Numbers with circles are on offense.
    Triangle numbers are on defense.

Coach says one or more numbers out loud.

On whistle the offense is in transition to  the opposite end as fast as possible.
The number(s) that the coach calls out are to touch the base line before heading down the floor to catch up on defense.

    2) For example: if coach says 1 & 5.
Upon whistle 2, 3, & 4 hustle down court 1 & 5 are to touch baseline then hurry down court on Defense

    3) While the Defense is heading down court the Offense upon the whistle is in hustling down the court.
At one time in this situation it will be a 5 on 3.

    Be sure and vary numbers.

This is also a good conditioning drill as the players are constantly moving.

    Defensive transition

    1) 6 Players and 1 ball is required for this drill

The group is split into offense and defense. The offensive 3 start on the baseline and the defensive players face their opponents on the free throw line extended.

The coach calls out the number of one of the offensive players (either 1,2 or 3) & passes this player the ball.

In the example, this is offensive player #3.

    2) When 3 receives the pass from the coach, his defender must run and touch the baseline while the remainder of the group play 2 vs. 3 until the defender catches the line.

The defenders must communicate and stop the ball as quickly as possible: our target spots are:

    1: the ball (containing)
2: the split line (removing options for the offense)

In this case 2 will call "ball" and attack it while 1 will call "split" and get to the spot.

We play for a score and then reverse the offense to defense for the return trip.

    Tennessee shooting

    1) 5 Balls and 8 players are required for this drill.

Players marked 1, 4, 5, 6 & 7 have balls at the start of the drill.

    We have a 3-man rush (1,2 & 3).

    2) When the ball gets just over the halfcourt line the following cuts are made:

1: drives to the basketball for a lay-up.
2: flashes from to the low block (and receives pass from 5).
3: shoots across the elbow (and receives pass from 4).

    3) On the return leg, 1 collects own rebound & the drill continues down the floor with 4 & 5 stepping up. 2 & 3 collect own rebounds then replace spots vacated by 4 & 5.

The drill continues in this fashion.

We always set targets for this drill and penalties apply.

    We are looking for:
80 makes in 3 minutes (3/3 conversions) and usually do a line sprint for each shot we are short and a push up for each miss. Penalties are done as a group.
