Half court weave-shoot

1) The play starts with three lines at half court
with the middle line having the ball to start
(Player 4).

Player 1 & Player 2 at the baseline also have
a ball.

2) Player 4 passes the ball to Player 5.  Player
4 follows  his pass, moving behind the player
he passed to.

3) Player 5 passes the ball to Player 3.  He then
follows his pass, moving behind the person he passed to.

4) Player 3 passes the ball to Player 4.  He
follows his pass moving behind the player he
passed to.

5) Player 4 passes the ball to Player 5 who
drives in for the layup.  Player 4 and Player 3
move to the wing.

6) Player 5 retrives his own rebound after
making layup.

Player 1 & 2, pass their ball out to Player
4 & 3.

7) Player 5 passes his rebound back to the
middle to Player 7.  He follows his pass and
moves to the back of the middle line.

Players 3 & 4 take jump shots.

Players 1 & 2 move to the back of the lines on their side of the court.

8) Player 4 & 3 retrieves their rebounds in
moves to the baseline on the same side they
shot from.

The drill starts again at mid court with the
players passing in the same direction.  In this
example, Player 7 would pass to Player 8.

The drill can run in the opposite direction but
players would rotate clockwise instead of
counter clockwise.

I emphasize the shooters follow their shot
after releasing the ball.

The drill I feel gives a good combination of
motion, passing, layups and jump shooting.

Multi-angle pass and layup

1) Each shooter should run through this drill hard & fast.  It combines a routine lay-up drill with sprints and teaches the player to adjust to balls coming from different angles.

Drill requires six players and five balls.

Drill starts with players/coaches standing with balls at five points as shown.

Shooter stands at the top of the key.  Younger players can use the foul line as their starting point.

Shooter breaks to the basket, receives pass from high-post extended player and hits lay-up.

2) Shooter runs back to his starting point and cuts back down the key, where he will receive a pass from the low-post extended player.

Shooter hits lay-up.

3) Shooter runs back to his starting point and cuts back down the key, where he will receive a pass from the other high-post extended player.

Shooter hits lay-up.

4) Shooter runs back to his starting point and cuts back down the key, where he will receive a pass from the other low-post extended player.

Shooter hits lay-up.

5) Shooter runs back to his starting point and cuts back down the key, where he will receive a pass from the baseline player.

Shooter hits lay-up.

Pass and follow layups

1) Drill starts off with a line at center court.  The
1st two players in line has a basketball.
There are two  players at top of the key
(Player 1 & 2).  And there's one player at the
bottom corner of the court (Player 3)

2) Player 4 passes to Player 1 at the key and
then breaks for a layup

3) Player 1 passes the ball to Player 4 and
follow's behind Player 4 as he makes his
layup.  Player 2 moves over and takes on the
position Player 1 had.

4) Player 1 gets rebound and outlet's ball to
Player 3.  Player 4 moves to the top of the
key taking the position held by Player 2.

Play continues at half court with Player 5
passing to Player 2.

5) Player 3 passes the ball to Player 6 at half
court.  Player 3 then follow's his pass and
moves to the end of the line. Player 1 moves
over and takes position of Player 3.

Player 2 passes the ball to Player 5 and
follows for the rebound.  Player 4 moves over
and takes position held by Player 2

The drill continues in this fashion.

I emphasize:
Good leading passes to the basket.
The passer not letting the ball hit the floor as
he rebounds the layup.

I use two balls for the drill so that the motion
is continuous.

Pass, run, lay-up

1) Players required: 10+

Have two payers on each sideline free throw line extended. Place two players under each basket with a ball.

Player 1 gives a pass to player 2 and runs towards the middle.
Player 6 gives a pass to player 7 and does the same.

2) Players 2 and 7 pass the ball back. Running players must receive the ball before they cross in the middle.

3)

4) After their passes, players 2 and 7 line up behind players 5 and 10.

Player 1 passes to 4, player 6 passes to 9.

5) Players 1 and 6 must receive their ball before they reach the bucket.

6) Players 1 and 6 finish with a lay-up.
Players 4 and 9 get the rebound.

7) Now players 4 and 9 repeat the drill with a pass to players 8 and 3.

8) After their lay-up, players 1 and 6 line up behind players 8 and 3.

9) This way we get a continuous motion.

Variation:

- a lay-up on one side and a jump shot on the other
- first player on sideline gives a chest pass, second gives a bouncer

4) 2 gets the ball from 4 and goes for a running lay-up (no stop, no dribble).

Speed shooting - layup

1) Player 1 starts with ball at the block on one side of the basket.  Coach sets clock for 1 minute.

At go, the clock starts.  The player 1 shoots from the block.

2) After shot, player 1 moves to opposite side block.  Player 2 rebounds the first shot.

3) Player 2 places ball at the block as player 1 prepares to shoot from the opposite block.

4) Player 1 shoots and moves to the opposite block.  Player 2 rebounds and places ball at the block.

This continues, with shots as quick as possible, until the clock runs out.

Keep track of shot attempts and shots made.

X - out layup drill

1) Player 1 starts at the elbow and makes a left hand layup at pace, then rebounds their own shot and dribbles out to the right elbow and returns for a right hand layup. Drill is repeated.

Drill should last for 1 minute (target score of 15 makes).

Emphasize:
- Correct footwork
- 1 dribble only
- Jump up and not long

Variation:
- Put the ball on the floor at the free throw line
- Work with an extra player who rebounds and put it on the ground.
