11 man fast break 2

1) 11 Man Fast break

Drill starts with 3 players at center court 2 players at each basket playing defense in tandem and 4 players off the court at the foul line extended on each side of floor.

The drill starts as a 3 on 2 fast break. The man with the ball stop hops at foul line then slides to whichever side the ball is passed for a return pass and possible shot. The back defensive man stops man that receives pass. The top defensive man forces man with ball to give up the dribble then falls back to prevent cross lane pass. The object of the defense is to create the turnover or force the shot from outside.

2) After the shot has been taken the rebounder passes the ball to one of the players at foul line extended and follows the pass to fill the lane. The receiver takes the ball to the middle of the floor to start the fast break going to the other end of the floor

The object of the drill is to teach passing, ball handling, defense as well as conditioning.

Adjust the drill to the way your break is played.

Bullets Made Free Throw Break

The point guard will declare a side by setting up at the half court sideline.

4 and 5 will set up in the bottom positions. 4 and 5 can go to either position.

The player opposite the point guard will take the ball out of the net and take two hard diagonal steps out of bounds, plant his feet and look to pass the ball inbounds to 1.

The other post player is the shooter and will run straight down the lane line extended and post strong at the mid block of the offensive basket.

3 sets up in the high spot on the right side and has box out responsibilities on the shooter.  3 sprints to the free throw line extended outside the three point line.

2 sets up on the left side.  2 sprints to one step on the backcourt side of back court.  It is important that 2 not cross the line or the defense will be able to force a turnover.

1 sprints to the free throw line extended for the inbound pass.

2) 5 pass to 1. After the pass 5 moves to the bottom of the half court circle and plays safety.  5 will not cross unless we start our secondary offense.

1 pass to 2.  It is ok to skip pass to 3 if 2 is guarded or not in position.  1 sprints to the block opposite 4.

2 pass to 3.  2 should look to dribble penetrate if 3 is guarded.  2 sprints to the top of the key.

3 pass to 4.  It is critical that 3 not pass to 4 until after 4 stops and posts.  Most passes to 4 while he is still moving have resulted in turnovers for us instead of an easy basket.

After the pass 3 can basket cut off 4 high or low or reposition for a shot.  3 cannot stay in the same position.  He must move to occupy the defense.

3) Secondary into Flex.

On the pass to 2.
5 down screens for 1.
5 turns to the ball and seals after the screen.
1 pops to the ball.

4) 2 passes to 1 begins the flex cut.

5) Secondary into short corner.

If the defense is playing zone defense we will break into a zone secondary.

Here we show the short corner attack.

Fast break - passes

1) Players 3, 4 and 5 make a triangle below the basket to rebound as many balls as possible. Player one is checking the free throw line for reflected balls.

When player four rebounds ball, player two makes his move to be in good angle for pass from player 4. At the same moment player three, as an opposite wing, runs forward for a later pass.

2) Player two passes ball to player 1, who suddenly tries to find player 3 for later pass.
Players 4 and 5 are also running forward as a later trailers.

3) Now player 1 passes ball to player 3 and runs on his position as a player-maker(a bit to the right to make room for trailers). At the same tima all other players run forward.

4) Now, player 3 has the ball and waits for first and second trailer. PLayer two moves to his position on right wing.

5) Player 5 as a first trailer did not get the ball, so he continues to the opposite site to make room for second trailer.

6) Player 4 gets the ball and lays-up (or shoots).

Three on two & two on one

1) The drill starts with 3 lines on the baseline on
one end of the court and two players on
defense on the other end of the court

2) As Player 1 dribbles up the center of the court,
Player 2 and 3 are quickly running up on
each side, ahead of the dribbler.

3) After Player's 4 and 5 commit to playing
defense on Player's 1 and 3, then Player 1
passes to open Player 2 who goes in for the
layup.

I usually allow one more pass for the layup if
the defense switches and plays defense on
the person that receives the first pass.

I only allow layups.  NO jump shots.

4) In this example, the player who made the
layup (Player 2) goes back to play defense.
We now have a two on one with Players 4 &
5 being on offense and Player 2 defending.

If the shot was not made and the defense gets the reboundl then the player that missed the shot plays defense.

If the ball is lost to the defense because of a
bad pass then the person who passed the ball goes back on defense.

So generally the person who last had
posession of the ball on offense, plays defense against the two offensive players.

The other two orginal offensive players (1 & 3)
stay back and now become the defenders
against the next two on three fast break.

5) Player 5 brings the ball up court (Making sure
that the two offensive players are spaced far
enough apart to make the defender commit).
Player 5 passes to Player 4 for the layup.
Again, I only allow one more pass in this
situation.

6) The ball is rebounded and passed to the
center line to start the drill with 3 new players
on offense. Player 4 & 5 move to the end of
the line.

Typicall I have guards in the center line and
forwards and centers on the two outside lines;
keeping the lines balanced with players.

I emphasize:
Guards dribbling at least to the  foul line before passing for the layups.

Fowards and centers running hard ahead of
the guards and moving toward the basket for
an expectant pass.

If the defense allows it, the guards are allowed to dribble all the way to the basket without passing.
