Orientation

Iquique is located in the first region of Chile. It is known as the Norte Grande. Iquique is one of Chile's biggest resort cities and has a population of 140,000. Blocked by huge cliffs, Iquique has spread north and south along the coast. Downtown retains the atmosphere of a 19th century port, with wooden houses, sailors' bars and street life.

The People

The people of Iquique are warm people and very friendly to travelers. Iquique is a big college town in Chile and has a very youthful population.

The Beaches

Playa Cavancha is a long beach that is perfect for swimming and sunbathing. This is Iquique's most popular beach. Farther south, Playa Brava is also a popular beach.

Places to Eat

Iquique has many outstanding restaurants. Iquique has great seafood at very reasonable prices. Avenue Thompson is the best place to go to find many good restaurants.

 

Nightlife

There are many good clubs and discotecs in Iquique. Most of the best clubs are located south of town in the Haikike area. There are also a few good clubs downtown. The clubs usually start rocking around 2 a.m. and close at sunrise.
