The University's main campus is located at Islamabad. Its educational facilities are extended to the remotest parts of Pakistan, firstly through the mailing of learning
materials and its radio and TV broadcasts and secondly by tutorial services through its regional campuses and centres established at major cities of the country.
Regional Directors arrange tutorial support for students at local level, both through correspondence and through the study centres established in various educational
institutions of the formal system of education. The regional campuses also organize workshops and provide guidance to the students. Allama Iqbal Open University is primarily a distance teaching institution using multi-media techniques. The main components are: 1. Correspondence packages which include self-learning printed texts and supplementary study materials. 2. Radio and television broadcasts specially prepared for distance learners. 3. Tutorial instruction through correspondence, plus face-to-face teaching at study centres, where possible, and workshops, where appropriate. 4. Course assignments as instruments both of teaching and continuous assessment. Urdu is usually the language of instruction but English is also used as a medium of instruction and expression in certain courses, particularly at BA, Postgraduate and MPhil levels. |
