You are the newest officer at the SOSPD, Officer (insert your name here). It is your first day there.
The phone rings. It is your turn to answer it. You answer it.
"Hello? Is this the police?" demands a frantic female voice with a strong Southern accent. You assure the woman that it is. "I think something terrible must have happened to my neighbor!!! You have to come over and investigate!! I think she must be dead, or kidnapped, or, even worse, eloped with the mailman, because I didn't get a Christmas present from my son in Texas, and it should be here by now, but that could just be because my daughter-in-law is a CENSORED and she got him drunk so they forgot about it. But anyway, you have to help poor Maureen, unless of course she did elope with the mailman, which is more than likely knowing her, in which case you should arrest her."
"Umm, why do you think something has happened to you neighbor?" you ask.
"Her lawn hasn't been mowed for two weeks, her petunias are wilting, and she still hasn't taken down her Christmas lights and it is already twelve days after Christmas!!!!"
"Well I haven't taken my Christmas lights down yet," you say, feeling guilty.
"Really??? Well, I took mine down last week and Maureen always has hers down before me. Anyway, you need to send someone over here to investigate. My address is 549 Perfect St. Maureen's house is right next door, but I have a spare key so I can open it for you when you get here. I'm always home, but come as fast as you possibly can!!" She hung up.
Since it is your first day on the job and you are anxious to get some action, even if it is totally mundane, routine, boring action, you decide to head over. 1
