CONTEST RULES

The SHOW X – September 11, 2004

    1.  Models that have won (placed 1st, 2nd, or 3rd) in any previous IPMS Regional, IPMS National, or IPMS/Will-Cook Show are invited to be entered in the Trophied Models Display.

      2.  There is no limit of entries per person in any one category.  Sweeps, however, are NOT allowed, and only one award per person per category will be allowed.

      3.  Aircraft categories with the exception of those noted below allow for moderate changes and/or additions to the kit.  You may use aftermarket detail sets, reposition flaps and control surfaces, and/or use aftermarket vacuformed canopies.  You may also use aftermarket resin wheels and seats as substitutes for the originals.  You may NOT change the type or mark of the aircraft, i.e., Cutting Edge set to change an FW-190F-8 to an FW-190A-8.  These categories also include hi-tech, resin, and vacuform kits.  The Contest Rules Master will have the final say on any controversies.

      4.  Aircraft Category #14 is for the conversion of an aircraft model from one mark or type to another, i.e., backdate or update.  Extensively scratchbuilt aircraft models also will be placed in this category.

      5.  Aircraft Category #15 is for "Out-of-the-Box" kits only.  This category does allow for the use of aftermarket decals and the use of seat belts.  You may add antennas, add rigging, and drill out exhaust stubs and gun barrels, but NO other work or parts can be added to the kit.  This category is reserved for modelers with limited contest experience.  Out-of-the-Box entries by experienced modelers are encouraged to be placed in an appropriate other category.

      6.  Armor categories with the exception of those noted below allow for moderate changes to the basic kit, such as the addition of deck screens, additional gear, use of photo-etched details, substitute tracks, and use of aftermarket one-piece turrets.  The Contest Rules Master will have the final say on any controversies.

    7.  Armor Category #22 is for major conversions of mark or type, including the use of resin and photo-etched details, interior detail sets, and/or extensive scratchbuilt details.

    8.  Armor Category #24 is for "Out-of-the-Box" kits only.  This category does allow for the use of aftermarket decals.  You may add antennas, tie downs for gear included in the kit, and drill out exhaust pipes and gun barrels, but NO other work or parts can be added to the kit.  This category is reserved for modelers with limited contest experience.  Out-of-the-Box entries by experienced modelers are encouraged to be placed in an appropriate other category.

    9.  Automotive Categories will follow the same guidelines as listed above for the Aircraft and Armor categories in determining which kits belong in which categories.  All resin body cars are to be entered in the Conversion Category #29.  Once again, the Contest Rules Master will have the final say on any controversies.

   10.  BASES vs. DIORAMAS:  A base provides support for a model and may be constructed to set off the appearance of the model.  If a model on a base is entered, the model only will be judged, with all features of the base ignored.  The model on a base becomes a diorama when it is the intent of the entrant to have the entire scene judged, including construction and painting skills on the base.  The entrant must declare base vs. diorama at Registration.

   11.  Following a change in the IPMS National Convention Rules, the composition rule of at least 75% plastic does not apply to this contest.  The use of "plastic" is encouraged, but it is not a required medium for construction.  The same finishing and craftsmanship standards, however, still apply.

   12.  It is not required that any entrant be a member of IPMS or an IPMS local chapter.  All modelers are welcome to enter.

   13.  A Junior (ages 15 & under) may choose to compete with Adult modelers, but then ALL of the Junior’s entries must be placed in the proper Adult categories.  A young modeler cannot be both a Junior and an Adult simultaneously.

   14.  The IPMS/Will-Cook SHOW X is provided for modelers of all ages in the spirit of developing modeling skills and enjoying an opportunity for fellowship with old and new friends.  All persons--contestants, spectators, vendors, and shoppers--are expected to conduct themselves in a manner that promotes a positive and sportsmanlike environment.
