Necromancers?
This section will deal specifically with the idea that Cabalists are the same as EverQuest Necromancers. I've known quite a few people who came under this assumption and have left the character to the grassy fields of Camelot Hills. However, I came from a Necromancer and some still play their Cabalists that have come from Necromancers. I will explain the differences and similiarities here, since it has been brought up a lot.
Necromancers in EQ were designed for the soloing player. It caters specifically for those who are seeking two things, the ability to not need a group and the simple fact of being one that commands an unquestioning servant. Mechanically, they have a lot of similarities. A pet, a damaging life draining spell, Damage Over Time spells, the same independent playability, and theme. However, Cabalists are lacking the necromancers powerful soloing ability in a few respects - Its nearly impossible to kite monsters in this game thus far, monster AI is different about who the monster will attack and why and so forth. Players joining the ranks of the Cabalist expecting to be a powerful Necro are finding themselves at a loss, feeling defeated, and leaving their Cabalist for another class. You must understand that a player cannot expect to be a necromancer in this game, we are simply not the same character. We are competant soloists, but not the best. Iphis
