IPDL Trial / Certification Guidelines and Regulations
These guidelines and regulations
are to ensure the safety of all at an IPDL event.
1) Entrants must be in good standing with the IPDL.
2) The trial will be open to any civilian and service dog K9 team. The I.P.D.L. has the right to withdraw any applicant at any time.
3) All dogs must be securely contained in a vehicle or kennel with adequate ventilation and shelter, until they are called to compete. NO TIE-OUTS allowed!
4) All dogs must be on-leash at all times! (A judge will direct handlers competing when to remove the leash for trial participation.)
5) No training will be allowed at the trial site on the day of the trial.
6) In every competition, the obedience phase will be held first . All teams must successfully achieve a minimum score of 70% in the obedience phase prior to competing in the protection phase. Each team must pass with a minimum score of 80% in the protection phase to be successful and to receive an I.P.D.L. Title.
7) Each trial / competition will be conducted by approved IPDL judges and personel only. Each judge is selected by the I.P.D.L. for their experience and expertise in this field. Judges are expected to meet I.P.D.L requirements.
8) The IPDL and those hosting the trials will approve all decoys. Only full suits will be worn by the decoys and must be approved by the judge(s) prior to competition.
9) All IPDL trials / certifications will provide the same obedience / protection scenarios openly available to all handlers wishing to certify.
10) Three (out of six) IPDL protection scenarios will be ran at each competition.
11) Any competitor / spectator will be disqualified and / or asked to leave who demonstrates improper treatment of their dog, and / or it is determined that the dog is a danger to other dogs or any person.
12) Any competitor / spectator will be disqualified and / or asked to leave who demonstrates poor sportsmanship or dangerous behavior.
13) Anyone caught not picking up after his or her dog will be disqualified and / or asked to leave.
14) A judge drawing the entrants from a hat will determine the order of competition prior to the start of the trial / certification.
15) All entrants must wear their assigned number during the entire trial. (Those competitors found without their assigned # can be disqualified.)
16) Only fur-savor collars or flat collars will be allowed on dogs competing. Any team that uses a flat collar will be subjected to an inspection of the collar by An I.P.D.L official before the scenarios begin. Flat collars must be 2" wide and made only of leather or nylon.
17) All exercises in both the obedience and protection phases will be conducted off-leash for the "A" and on leash for the "B".
18) Handlers can not transmit any audible, visible, or olfactory signal to their dog during competition other than their voice commands and hand signals. Any handler caught cheating will be banned from the IPDL for life!
19) The dog should not be corrected during competition.
20) The more commands a handler must give for the dog to respond correctly the more points will be withdrawn by the judges.
21) During the obedience phase, the handler should begin and end each exercise with their dog sitting in heel position. Points will be deducted for handlers who must command their dog to return to heel position and / or sit more than once.
22) During the protection phase, the handler should begin and end each exercise with their dog sitting or down in heel position. Points will be deducted for handlers who must command their dog to return to heel position and / or sit or down more than once. This includes handlers having to command their dog to “out” off a decoy more than once. Handlers having to physically take their dogs off the decoy will automatically receive a zero score on that exercise.
23) Prior to participating In any IPDL trial / function, each handler must complete,sign and turn in with fee an IPDL trial application. All those prticiapting in any fashion must sighn a liability release. (Limited entries at some trials).
24) The IPDL trial entry fee will be $35.00 per dog / handler team.
25) All handlers must report two hour's prior to the start of any IPDL trial. Unless other wise posted.
