happy halloween! i dressed up as nothing and will be passing out candy to little kids until the bears game tonight. this week was spent coaching basketball and watching college football. it was a great day in football, the mildcats of northworstern beat purdon't and heisman hopeful kyle orton who had a fumble to go with his interception while being benched in the second half. this is bad news because backup brandon kirsch is a player. the kid nearly beat iowa in my senior year. please put kyle back in when they play iowa! also to all of my friends who went or are going to the university of illinois, when is ron turner going to get fired? the team is a great first half team but then nothing in the second half. i want the rivalry back where the games are interesting. well at least we will compete with their basketball team and sweep them this year. yes, if you cannot think your team can win in any given game you are not a fan. lately i have been feeling like i reached the age of 48. today i had to sign up for my retirement plan. retirement, gess it seems a long way away. i turned 24 two weeks ago, now i am playing for when i am 65. also i find myself watching how i act, not swearing, and being responsible. being an older brother and a coach i bought into the notion that i am a role model and kids will follow how i act, scary. i am the same kid that ran around in baggy pants, dying my hair red and then blonde, and growing rocky biddle sideburns. now i find myself watching my brother's friends and asking was i that goofy when i was that young, the answer is yes.
congrats to tom and my 8th grade basketball team for taking 4th in the mt. assisi tournament last weekend. after playing 4 straight games the girls managed to win 2 of 4 thus earning a trophy for all of us including one for the school. it was the first trophy i received since i was about 12 years old. again congrats! this weekend was filled with sports and bars. friday went to see rice lose in overtime to st. rita costing rice their first undefeated season and outright catholic league title. it was a great game, and now rice will play licoln-way central in the first round of the state playoffs. after the game craig and i meet up with hynek, judy, my sis, marty, and frank cheers for a few drinks at heart's. i didn't plan on being out to late but when 2 o'clock rolled around after a trip to white castle it was time for bed. last night i meet up with pete, mary and craig at b.j. mcmahons to watch the world series. i hope boston is able to end their streak of bad luck and win one. most of chicago i think has adopted boston as their team. the bar was going nuts after every boston run.
walking to the train yesterday i was slowed down by slow walking people with rolling backpacks. i hate those things, its not enough that they walk like a turtle, they have to take up half the sidewalk with their rolling backpack. i could understand if they were catching a train to an airport and need a big bag, but they are taking the rock island. i just thought i would rant about that. pete told me his dad kicks the back of the suitcase to trip them up. this week was also pretty painful. my back for some reason was killing me. i tried to get to my basketball game and i could not roll off my futon. then when i did it was impossible to put any weight on my right leg to walk. so i just stood there for 4 minutes trying to figure out how to sit back down with no pain. i think i pulled a muscle while running to practice on monday night. seems the older you get the more you should stretch before running. today i feel alot better but still some pain. it seems fall is now upon us and it is getting cold out, i love it. fall is my favorite season, leaves changing color, breaking out my winter hat collection, and college football. go hawkeyes, beat buckeyes!
wow! i am now 24 years old today. the only thing different from the previous birthdays is I am up and working at 6:30am. yes, that is right i am now a media associate for a marketing company in dowtown chicago. . . . o c t o b e r © 2 0 0 4 . . . |
