EVERGREEN PARK (and the rest of the midwest) WAS HIT BY AN EARTHQUAKE LAST NIGHT. while i was watching tv last night at around 1am i heard my tv stand start to rock, then my chair shock for a few seconds, and finally a big shake where i thought my house was going to collapse. they said on the news it was 4.5 lasting only 4 seconds with the epicenter around ottawa, il. my parents thought i was nuts when i asked if they felt the house shake last night. then while i was shooting hoops sean came out and told me about the quake. this has happened though 4 times the last being in 1972. the theme of my last few days has been, every body was a kung fu fighting. thursday i went up to lincoln park to help tim and siv get their gas connected. when i got up there we went out to bar called kincaid's. pretty nice place and its right around the corner from their apartment. the only down fall of the apartment is its location right on next to the red, brown and purple line trains. after the bar tim and i watched drunken master starring jackie chan until about 2:30am. friday i woke up, the gas lady came and hooked it up, watched some kick ass high definition television, then left for home in the afternoon. yesterday the shockers lost another game, 16-7. it was no that bad, we scored our highest run total to date against a quality team. i had my first start as pitcher, i compare it to tossing bean bags with a little more arch. after the game we headed to bj mc mahon's where there was a huge fight between two huge guys who were wasted. let this be a lesson, never pour a full pint of beer over another guys bald head. this started a shoving match and a large man throwing about five people off of him while trying to clock this guy. the fight would have been better if one of the guys busted out and started fighting drunken master style.
sometimes i question the chicago fire's marketing campaign to children. it still makes me laugh when i see the name of the foundation, "fireworks for kids". some how that just does not sound right. kids shouldn't be lighting off fireworks, hell they are illegal in illinois. it brought back memories of when i was in high school and lighting poppers with a magnifying glass. not the greatest idea we have ever had. last night the foundation was out in full force when mitch and i hit up the chicago fire v. chicago fire reserve game at st. laurence. the fire beat the reserves 2-1 but we took off at halftime because of the rain. we both lucked out though and did not have to pay to get into the game. while we were walking to get tickets two gals asked us if we needed seats. we said yes and they handed us free tickets, i guess they had a bunch for some reason. so thank you to the two gals at st. laurence for saving me 10 bucks.
not many americans know who andrew johns is but this is huge rugby news. joey may cross codes becoming the biggest move since 1908, or so i am told. the switch from league to union would be huge, and give joey a shot at a wallabies jumper. i can understand the reason to switch. today the announcement is supposed to happen and make it official, andrew johns will be a nsw waratah. in the short few months while i was there he became my favorite player, so good luck joey!last night i went to the sox game with karen, mary, shelia and brian. talk about exciting. the sox won in extra inning on a jose valentin homerun. the sox should have won easily if it was not for giving up a 8-0 lead. the game featured two scoreless innings by shingo takatsu, mr. zero. i am so glad they dumped koch and gave the closing role to takatsu. over the weekend the shockers lost a close game. well it was the only game so far we have had a lead in. slowly but surely we are getting better. i have designed yet another website for craig, this time its his euro trip pics. the site is still under construction but it will soon be done.
i love how my temp agency calls out of the middle of nowhere with jobs. today they called with two options, i hope i am chosen for either. not working can make a person go insane. there is just to many hours in the day. although looking for a job has been a full time job for me. i have some other interviews lined up for next week so hopefully something goes through. congrats to the iowa hawkeyes who landed one of the top senior qb recruits from lockport. jake christensen commited yesterday to the hawkeyes, he was also the one who passed all day on rice last year in the state semifinal. now i do not hate him anymore. new south whales lost last night to the hated queensland maroons 22-18. i guess there was one of the greatest tries in origin history scored by a maroon. this week the replay of the game should be on nrl.com. go blues in game three at telstra stadium. on sunday the shockers lost another game 8-3, at least we scored. i played left field and watched two homeruns fly over my head. that is the worst feeling knowing there is no way your going to get to the ball. we are getting better though, the hitting is starting to come around.
harry potter III nights was a success, we filled only one row this year. since it was summer, a friday night, and people are on vacation the numbers were down this year. the movie is by far the best of the series so far, it might even be better than drumline. it was a darker film compared to the others. the two and half hours flew by, and that is usually a sign of something good. i think the best part of the night was walking out of the show and having two girls point at danny (tom's brother) and calling him harry potter. for those of you who do not know danny, he is a dead on harry potter look alike. its nice to see strangers are now starting to recognize the resemblance. rumor has it the new book will be coming out soon, and is shorter than the last two. my prediction is harry either dies or becomes a head master. yes, i am a dork.
for the first time in the last few months i have time to fix up some of my websites. today i spent a few hours updating and making changings to the c&l website. last week they were featured in the daily southtown and star newspapers for their 55th anniversary. i also cleaned up my site and am trying to updated it more often. yesterday, i beat tom and brazel in four consecutive games of bean bags. my teammate left early so i played against both of them and suprisingly won. looks like i am in good form to kick ass this summer. a few nights ago tom and i had our first meeting for the girls 8th grade basketball team we are going to coach this year. we were the youngest people there by at least 20 to 30 years. it should be a fun time. harry potter night III has been announced, friday june 11th 7:40pm at loews in crestwood. if you are interested contact me.
gess, it has been a while since i last updated my site. so here is all that is new. congrats to my big little brother sean on his graduation from central jr. high. sean is going to be a freshman at brother rice next year, go crusaders! sunday the shockers (the br. rice alumni softball team i am on) played their first game and lost 8 to 0. we looked pretty out of sync to start the first three innings, but we got it together. all though we only had four hits and were shut out it was a fun time. the only not so fun part was when i chipped my front tooth on a bad hop from a grounder at second. after we learned all the rules and hynek got used to the strike zone we shut them out the last four innings. i think we should improve this week. after the game we headed to bj mc mahon's, our sponsor. thank to them for supporting our drinking and softball playing. after the bar we left to practice a little, after getting the rust out we started to play well. i found out i am a better outfielder than second baseman. today was spent at the dentist getting the chipped tooth fixed. luckly i have the greatest dentist in the world and hooked me up with some free dental work. i owe him a million thanks! . . . d a n n y � 2 0 0 2 - 2 0 0 4 . . . |
