my brother is now half way to fifty, man did he get old quick. his bithday happens to fall on australia day, something like out july 4th. i was reading the sydney daily telegraph online and saw that a majority of australians want the queen gone as their head of state. hmmm...this might lead to a major shake up. this day also holds a place in the hearts of many bears fans. on this day in 1985 the chicago bears won superbowl 20, by defeating the new england patriots. all i remember was katie and i were sick while tj was at mary pat's house. i think i was eating tomato soup, boy that sounds good.1 - 2 2 - 0 4. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .this weekend will be spent in macomb, illinois home of western illinois university and my sis. it should be a good time, i have not been on a road trip in a long time now.next friday i have the most interesting job interview yet. i will be trying out for to be the official mascot for the chicago fire. i told you it would be interesting. i just got off the phone with my brother who is enjoying 90 degree weather while i freeze in sub zero temps. he told me to check out a funny website of an american grocery store in australia. it carries all the fun stuff we enjoy that is not carried down there. check out the prices on some of the items. 1 - 1 8 - 0 4. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .friday night tom, siv, mike, and i headed up to the last event at drury lane in evergreen park. soon drurry lane will be turned into a wal-mart, word is not in if it will be super or not. the event at drury lane we had to attend was st. bernadette's casino night. it was a blast as always. i walked away even which is not bad since i was in a losing slump at gambling. the only bad thing of the event was the lack of open seats at blackjack tables. turns out they had a crowd of over 900 people. i was able to see some of the parents of sean's friends.the table tom and i sat at had four fairly young gals (i thought 30s one was in her 20s). i had to stand for a little while since the table was missing a seat. this is important to the story since i was not able to hear most of what was being talked about at the table. the girl in her 20s was pretty cute asked if i wanted to share her chair, i said sure and sat on half of her seat. earlier while i was standing, i heard the gals say something about the kid in glasses and i didn't think anything of it. after playing for about an hour i decided to cash out my chips we headed to the parking lot. on our way to mike's car i comment on how the gal i was sharing chairs with was kind of cute. tom tells me that the conversation the gals had about the kid in the glasses standing (that is me) was about how i was good looking. this has happened before where girls send signals, i totally don't get or hear them, and tom tells me about it later. to connect this with another funny event my hair was in "the point". yes, the same point i had when the 52 year old in sydney hit on me at the bar. this has lead me to believe the shirt did not attract her, it was the point. congrats to iowa's fred russel who was the hula bowl's mvp rushing for 2 td's and 100 yards. a good bye is in order for steve waugh of australia cricket, i was upset i could not watch his final test match. good on ya steve for all your success, and giving me a reason to spread the good word of cricket to americans. 1 - 1 5 - 0 4. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .all day at work i listen to nothing but heavy metal music. now don't get me wrong its ok, i just can't listen to it for 6 hours a day. on my ride home from work i have to counter it by listening to bubble gum pop music. in metal its a lot of yelling and lyrics of depression and getting the hate out. bubble gum pop is nothing but happy and uplifting, and it makes you want to dance. unfortunately i have been recently hooked on am radio during my rides to and from work. that means i listen to nothing but sports talk shows. yes, i am sick of pete rose, lovie smith, and the white sox not signing anyone. now many of my friends know one of my guilty pleasures is listening to radio disney on the am along with the sports talk shows. it makes me laugh at what songs the play for their target audience of 8 - 14 year olds.on my way home today radio disney had a contest for a mother of a child listener. i thought it would be funny to post the questions and see if anyone could answer just one of them. the mother had to answer the following questions: name the place where sponge bob square pants lives?
name a character who is on the lizzie mcguire show besides lizzie? name a song by the group jump 5? if you were able to answer any of these than you are more of a disney person than i. the mother named all three with no troubles, that scared me. 1 - 1 3 - 0 4. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .on my drive home from work the last few days i have seen some weird sights. yesterday there was helicopters flying around i-290 while i merged onto the highway. the police were moving all the traffic away from the express to the local lanes. when i got about 20 minutes into the drive (or crawl because of the slow movement) i saw a van flipped on its side and cops sweeping up the highway.another interesting sight was a man riding a bike west on 95th street right at the on and off ramps. the moron was riding on the median in-between all the traffic. then when i got to pulaski i saw a man wearing a robe and slippers crossing to the white hen. man put some pants on its freezing outside. congrats to the iowa hawkeye men's b-ball team who beat minnesota. they are now 2 and 1 in the big ten. this saturday they will beat the ill-ini on their way to a sweep of my most hated team in the big ten. 1 - 1 1 - 0 4. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .so much has happened in the last week that i decided to put it down in a positive vs. negative list.positive - i am now making money due to the fact i have a job. i work for don's company assembling orders in a warehouse in rolling meadows. the people there are great and the job is getting me back into shape. negative - it is a long drive and i get stuck in traffic coming back, but the drive is not as bad as i thought it would be. negative - while driving on i-290 to get home from work thursday my car developed a knocking sound. about 10 miles from work it died, and friday i found out that it would not be worth fixing. chalk up the car leaking oil and my not getting it changed. lesson learned, don't put off what you can do today. positive - the car died, but i didn't. the car started smoking and i had to change three lanes quickly to get to the shoulder of the highway. thank goodness people stopped and let me get by quickly. (thank you to all that helped my dad for picking me up, the adb security guard at the office building near my busted car for letting me use their phone and stay warm in the building. thank you to suburban towing for moving my car. thank you aunt sue and don for getting dale to check out my car.) positive - drove katie back to wiu with my dad, and the school is pretty nice. i was excited the move was done in under a half hour. negative - katie is now not at home and their is not much to do at home. positive - iowa was able to beat purdon't in their big ten b-ball season opener. negative - iowa was not able to beat northworstern at home in their second b-ball game. positive - my house now has ethernet! negative - we did not have a computer with an ethernet adapter. that meant i had to go get one and install it into our computer, it was an easy process. positive - went to see the new show at second city with tom and his friends. the new show, doors open on the right, is the hardest i have laughed in a long time. negative - no negative that night. 1 - 0 3 - 0 4. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .tonight i had a cast of characters over to watch the new american pie movie. i think it was funnier than the first two. katie and mkb also rented another gem called malibooty starring tek from the real world. lets just say it was no worse than da hip hop witch (a ghetto blair witch knock off). i was suprised to see that we fit nine people into my room for movie night.on another note chicago made yet another top ten list. chicago was listed as the fifth fatest city in america, detroit was number 1. in defense for chicago it is tough to go out and exercise in sub zero temps. yesterday i was able to get some exercise. with global warming becoming real each year chicago was at 58 degrees. i thought it was the only time in january to hit the links. yup, i golfed 6 holes before the light rain started to fall and drove me off the course. i shot the best six holes of my life, chicago needs this weather to stick around. if you are looking for some funny quotes check out the quotes page. there are some new ones from tonight. 1 - 0 1 - 0 4. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .happy new year, and how 'bout them hawkeyes! iowa beat florida this morning to start the new years day bowl games. by winning the outback bowl the hawkeyes erased their 45 year losing streak in bowl games in the month of january. the bowl win was just the 2nd for the big ten so far, and hopefully not the last.i was always under the assumption that gary, indiana was the murder capitol of the u.s. but its not. turns out that chicago holds the unwanted label of murder capitol of america with 599 homicides. i thought it was an odd fact to find when i signed onto aol today. the free gun locks that are being passed out in illinois came a day to late. turns out a man accidentally shot his wife while he was getting his gun ready to shoot on new year's eve. i never really understood that tradition, and am glad no one does it in the village. . . . d a n n y � 2 0 0 4 . . . |
