everyone has a unique work world, and last night i was exposed to the world of o'hare airport. tom, kevin, and i went up to luken's party in logan square and the party was all people who work at ohare. luken works on the ramp for an airlines with some of the people who live above him. there were plane captains, flight attendants, security guards, ramp workers, and ticket agents. all of them had crazy stories of the inner workings of o'hare. most of the people were still in uniform so i got to try on a captain's hat. it was pretty cool to walk around with for a while.

there will be a void on television now that the olympics are over. it was nice to come home from work and watch 5 hours straight of sports. congrats to the USA who won over 100 medals, including the bronze in men's basketball, way to go a.i. and the gang.

last saturday morning tom and i coached one of the greatest games of basketball i have seen. our team fought back from two deficits and hung with the other team from fisher. we lost by one point in over time, but our team played their hearts out. i can't wait until our game tuesday.

friday went to see garden state after grandma's birthday dinner at jack gibbon's steak house (good steak). garden state was great, i recommend everyone go see it.

i added some new quotes to the dormant quote page so check those out.

why are people still referring to the usa men's basketball team as the dream team? i can name about 30 other nba players i would rather see play. please people call them by there real name, the b team.

some time this week i need to hit the links before the hayes golf outing. last year sean and i were beaten by tom and danny. hopefully we can pull out our 2002 game and bring home the hayes - lynch trophy.

also tom and me are coaching an 8th grade girls b-ball team. our first game is this tuesday and it will be great to see how we do. win or loose we are going to have fun! i am positive we will play great. so come out to a game and support the team, or the coaches.

so for the past week i have been watching the olympics and boy is it exciting. similar to every other olympics the usa is in first in the medal count. the thing that surprises me is the lack of people in the stands. you mean to tell me in an 8 year time frame they could not sell out any events i have watched so far. things are so bad that they are talking about giving away tickets. its a disgrace to see the empty stands. greece must be taking a huge hit in the pocket shelling out a few billion. also to my australian relatives you have been getting served in the pool, luckly you have thorpe.

as for work no decision has been made yet, and it is not annoying me as it did a few weeks ago. my department has been shuffled around and i am starting to feel more at home. it seems i have my daily routine and favorite seat on the train. although every day is a little different it does not seem like much changes. my day is not complete without seeing the regulars at the la salle st. station. the street wisssssse salesman, the "homeless" woman begging for change although i see her taking my train to downtown in the mornings, and the the weird girl playing the banjo on tuesday or the latino guitar player on thursdays. i always take my lunch at millennium park, and think i have been in the background of a few hundred tourists pictures. today i even got to take a picture of a group of older people. i hope they like how i framed out the shot and positioned the bean right in the middle. someday i will bring my camera there.

last week was spent at the arlington million where i lost only 14 dollars. after the races we hit up roscoe village and the retro on rosco street festival. both were a blast and then spent the nice at the imsek pallace. i have been doing a little web design work for the up and coming jimsivicek.com. its a great idea and it gets underway pretty soon. monday i also got to hang out with pete after work which is always fun.

good luck to all that are going back to school! katie left today for western and sean started at br. rice last tuesday. this is the sign that summer is over! although the weather will probably be in the 70s until october (global warming folks get used to it).

it seems my decision on where i want to work has been accelerated due to the fact that i am getting a formal offer two weeks earlier than anticipated. so keep tuned and i should know where i am going to work in a few weeks.

this week has been filled with busy work and meeting up with friends for lunch. last friday went up to siv and tim's place to head out to some lincoln park bars. we hit up the red lion and irish eyes. irish eyes had whitey o' day singing so that was good fun. we were able to get him to play south side irish, and we were the only ones singing. the red lion was a chill english bar with great import beers. i was drinking some scottish beer called tenant's, good stuff. after a long ride home i went to sleep at about 4am. they say time flies when you are having fun, and its the truth.

last night went out to dinner in homewood-flossmor to the train station. it is pretty cool the old station was turned into a brewery and restaurant. i had one of the home brewed ale's which tasted like guinness with a kick.

over the past few weeks, sean's team ended up taking third in state for the pony league. two articles had sean in them from the local kankakee paper. they misspelled his name in each article. the first one had "shawn" and the second spelled it "shaun". we got a kick out of the inability of the daily journal to spell a kid's name right when they have a roster.

i am going through softball withdraw since our season is over. we ended it in record breaking style. the shocker's are probably the only team in the history of 16 inch softball to get a perfect game pitched against us. ya that is right not only were we no hit and slaughtered in the fourth innings we didn't get a single ball into the outfield. all in all thought it was a fun season. we had a lot to laugh about, i can't wait to play next year.
