Edison says goodbye to the media

Edison becomes the newcomer king within only a short amount of time. He was able to kick former classmate, Nicholas Tse, out and got the leading role in Gen Y Cops. Not only that, he also won numerous newcomer awards. But just when he is getting more popular, Edison suddenly decided to go to Japan next year to study and improve himself. When he comes back to Hong Kong, he plans to focus entirely on the music industry.

Edison plans to go to Japan for three months
Even though Edison had only been in business for 8 months, he became the newcomer king. With only one EP, <Edison Chen>, he was able to win numerous awards at all the ceremonies. On this year's first award ceremony, Edison won the "newcomer award," and the "newcomer king award." After that, he continued the EEG legend, and won 4th year in a row, the Jade Solid Gold Award Ceremony's Best Newcomer in gold. But Edison doesn't seemed to be satisfied with himself. Therefore, he suggested to his company that he wants to go to Japan to study music early this year.
Even though his record company had already planned his work for this year, and his schedules was packed. But Edison insisted on going to Japan, "This year I need to film a movie called Princess D, and this other Japanese one called Dead or Alive 2. And I want to try to be involve in some TV soap operas too. But I'll spend more time on the upcoming album, that's why I told my company to send me to Japan to study. Even though there's a lot of work to do for this year, and I'll probably won't have much time. But I have to go. I plan to stay in Japan for 3 months, mainly to study dance and creating music.

Record Company totally supports Edison
The reason Edison wants to spend more time to study music is because he is really interested in music production. He is also interested in getting involve in creating music, "while I was recording for the first EP, I was already thinking about how my second album can be like. Besides asking my friends in Canada to write songs for me, I also want to have some of my work in the cd, and to participate in music production. That's why I decided to go to Japan to study. Even if I can't write good songs after my going to Japan, I'll know the basic foundation in music. I believe this will help me in my singing skills.
MusicPlus support his decision. The company's executive said, "The company totally favors his suggestion, and hopes that he'll be different after that. This year, we plan to have him release two albums. The first one is planned to be release in April. So he'll probably go to Japan for a little while before April, and when he comes back, he'll be different during his promotion. In order to have him reach his goal sooner, we are already picking out songs for the album right now. In the new album, we'll find 3-4 music producers, because we want a mix of variety in it, and to enable Edison to expand his talents and to try different things."
Also, in the middle of this year, Edison will go to Taiwan to promote. He's learning Mandarin right now and said, "I don't why the people that the company assigns to go to Taiwan is called laying off. But I'm interested in going to Taiwan. I like to try different things."

EEG continues to create legends in the music industry. First there were Nicholas Tse and Joey Yung, making them the first youngest ones to hold concerts. This year EEG's newcomer, Edison, had only been around for 8 months. But he became the center of attention for the media. He obtained very good results at numerous award ceremonies. In the Jade Solid Gold Award Ceremony, he helped EEG to continue their legend. After Nicholas Tse, Joey Yung, Grace Yip, he won the Best newcomer award in gold for the 4th year in a row.

He never thought he'll win anything
The year of 2000 can be consider a good year for Edison. But actually, he never thought he'd receive such good outcomes in the award ceremonies, "When I entered the recording studio, I just want to sing good songs. Plus, it was very hard recording songs, so I never did it to win anything. That's why I never thought I'll win anything in the award ceremony. I just try my best, and that's all."
"Even though I did win the awards, it doesn't mean EEG won 4 year in a row. Because I'm under MusicPlus, and even though my boss is Mr. Yeung, EEG and MusicPlus has different people and so it's different."
Before the chase, Edison said that he sings because he wants to release CDs, but not for the awards. But on the night of the Jade Solid Gold Award Ceremony, people were booing when the person announced that the winner for the Best Newcomer Gold is Edison and Louis. He said, "Before the ceremony, I thought Louis would win. I never thought there'll be two gold awards, because everyone's work is different. There were gossips that said Louis took half of my gold award, but of course I didn't become unhappy because of this. As long as I get an award, I'll be very happy."

Edison officially entered the media in the middle of last year. He released an album at the end of November, and did a movie, Gen Y Cops. He participated in a lot of activities.
