KISA HİKAYELER
Love Until Death
by Tanya Rabinovich
Once upon a time there lived a wife and her husband. And they lived in friendship and good fortune for a long, long time. But finally they became very, very old, so they started to think about death. But they loved each other very much.
One terrible day, the husband awoke very weak. He called to his wife and told her that the day of his death was coming soon. After that day, joy didn't live in this home, so every evening the wife asked Death to change its aim and take her life, not her husband's.
One terrible winter night, Death finally came to their home. She approached the wife's bed and said, "I heard all your words. Now it is time for your husband to die, but you are such a good wife that I can't refuse your request. So come with me."
For one minute the wife thought about this, and finally she said, "My husband's bedroom is on the second floor..."
The Tortoise and
the Hare
retold by Zebib Gebray
A long time ago, there was a very big
marathon competition for wild animals. A Rabbit and a Turtle
decided to compete with each other. The Rabbit told the Turtle
that he was very slow and too fat to run. Day by day the Rabbit
made the Turtle sick of her. One day all of the Turtles decided
to compete against the other animals. One Turtle said to the
Rabbit, "I will run against you." The Rabbit laughed at
him and said, "You are so slow. You'd better stop saying
that." But the Turtle said to her, "Don't worry about
that. I will do it. If you are afraid of me, sure, stop it, but
then know I am the best." Ms. Rabbit got angry at him and
said, "Let's do it tomorrow afternoon." Mr. Turtle
said, "OK."
The next day came, and all the animals were there to see who would be the fastest. They started to run at 1:00 p.m.. The Rabbit started very fast and the Turtle moved like he had before. All the Rabbit's friends and family were happy to show how good they were, but the Rabbit ran fast and got tired fast. She looked back and saw the Turtle moving very slowly, so she decided to sleep until he came. But, the little Rabbit had a good sleep with a good dream. The little Turtle did not stop. He came near the Rabbit and saw her snoring. He passed by her very slowly and was the first at the finish line of the marathon. All the animals cheered for the Turtle. Then the little Rabbit woke up and listened to the fans. She ran, but the Turtle had already won the title of the marathon race. What can you learn from that story?
The Singing Girl
by Mai Vue Xiong
A long time ago, a few families lived in a village. They were just a few people, and their houses were not near each other, either.
A couple named Yer and Nue Qia had been
married about five years. They had two children, and they lived
quietly in the house T
hey also had some chickens, pigs, and a small
farm. Their life was not rich, but they were kind and good to
other people. Nue Qia went to the farm every day while his wife
stayed home to take care of the animals and their children. At
lunch time, she brought lunch to him at the farm.
One day Yer said to Nue Qia, "When you go to the farm, you shouldn't sing a song." But he didn't know what his wife meant. One day when he went to the farm, he thought to himself, "Why did she say that to me? I am going to sing and see what happens." When he finished singing, he heard the sound of a woman singing in the forest. A few days later, he got sick.
After he got sick, his wife went to the forest everyday to look for medicine for him, but he didn't feel better, and his wife stayed home to take care of him. Then there was nobody to take care of their farm or their animals. One day, she told her two children that she would go to get some water, and they must stay home with their father. When she went through the back yard, she heard a sound like a little girl singing and she hid behind a tree. When the sound came near the tree, she saw a little ghost holding a banana trunk on its back. She thought maybe the ghost was holding that thing to exchange it for her husband, so she picked up her sword to kill the ghost and the ghost died.
Finally, she went back home and saw that her husband was feeling better. At night, the ghost came to her in a dream. The ghost said, "Yer, you are a very brave and strong woman. I was afraid of you, so I will let Nue Qia stay with you." Then their family lived happily, and Nue Qia didn't have any probems until he was 120 years old.
