Welcome from our 2003 Committee

President - Jacquelyn
Meeting new people and having companions for cycling and hiking were my main reasons for becoming an IOC member. After joining, I discovered that many new outdoor experiences awaited me! At first I was very reluctant to lead an event, seeing so many stronger and tougher people around me. Then some members pointed out that there were others just like me, so please lead an event that would be relaxing and enjoyable for all. So now, my favourite hiking /cycling course in Nara has become popular among many of our members!

Some highlights for me over the years have been learning to ski and snowshoe. I have been a member of IOC for more than 5 years, have served as cycling coordinator and special events organizer. While looking over folders full of information passed on by former committees, I found names of people who have moved on, but left many good ideas. These include hiking and cycling routes all over the Kansai area, along with full moon cycling, dragon boat teams, nabewari, sawanobori, running events and more.

My goal for all IOC members this year is to familiarize ourselves with some of these yet to be "rediscovered" activities and routes, to get each member committed to lead at least one event over the year in order to spread the 'work and responsiblilities' among everyone. Along with this, will come greater enjoyment too!

Best regards for a great year,
Jacquelyn Elliott

Hello everyone!  Spring has come and IOC has changed little bit. I and other committee members will try to do our best for our club.  Your cooperation, advise, etc. would be welcomed!  Please contact to any committee member.

Ciao,
Shiho

Activities Coordinator - Chris
Hi all

My first event with the IOC was the annual event in Kurama last October - what a brilliant way to start!  Since then, I've taken part in several cycling events and a snowshoe hike on Mt. Hira this February.  Being in the IOC for just a few months has already allowed me to meet some great people as well as get to know the Kansai a little better.  Looking at the event files and hearing from other members has shown me just how much there is to do around here, and I'm looking forward to participating in a lot of events this year, as well as leading a few too.

As a member of the IOC committee along with Jacquelyn, Shiho and Greg, I"ll do my best to keep things running smoothly and build on past successes so that our club continues to be a great way to widen our horizons.

I'm so sad to see the snow gone because I love snowbaording.  But! I'm looking forward to some great hardcore hiking this summer.  And watching the cherry blossoms emerge reminds me how beautiful the outdoors is in Japan.

It's my job to make sure all the members of IOC-Kansai can share and hear about all the cool stuff that's happening.  So check out our website and and message board often.  And if you have any ideas or comments, send them to me pronto. I'll see you in the trees!
