A documentary about Bulgarian children adopted in the United States, about their integration in their new families, the state of the orphanages in Bulgaria, and the country's legislation and regulations regarding adoption. The film follows the lives of several children from the orphanage in Bulgaria up to their complete adaptation in their American families after they have gone through a medical treatment for physical disabilities and now can fully enjoy their childhood. The film touches upon many controversial issues: is there a need for the adoption of Bulgarian children by foreign families, why Americans would want children from Bulgaria, etc.
The film was made in the State of Washington, USA, and in Bulgaria. It was made with the support of Adoption Advocates International, Port Angelis, WA.
During the production of the documentary, the film crew brought two Bulgarian children to their new parents in the States.
The film had two simultaneous premieres, one on the Bulgarian National TV Channel 1 and an American premiere in Port Angelis, where it was shown to 40 famillies who had adopted children from Bulgaria.
"I Dream of America" is the most frequently shown documentary on BNT, and has received very high peoplemetric ratings.
